How much does your 7/8 mo feed at night?

I bf my nearly 8mo at about 10pm and 7am and usually a couple of times during the night. When he was tiny he would sleep through the night but from 4 and a half months he got more hungry. He's feeding a lot in this time so I assume he's genuinely hungry, but how much he eats in the day, and at what time, seems to make no difference. I'm nosey about how much other babies feed in the night at this age and whether they naturally cut down night feeds or if you had to get mean?

I'm doing pretty much the same as you (8 1/2 months). I'm hoping that he'll start reducing a bit more soon - he gets a good load of food during the day now, but still seems to need something overnight.

My DD naturally cut down night feeds naturally from around 5.5 months and now, a week short of 8 months rarely wakes for feed between 8pm and 5.30am. On the odd occasion she does wake we try to send my DH in and he can usually settle her with a cuddle in 5 mins, if I go in she has other ideas! Hopefully your LO starts to cut down naturally soon!

I hope so - after the first few weeks he started sleeping longer and longer at night and I was hoping the same thing would happen after the 4m regression, but no signs yet!

my 7.5mo was feeding 3 times between 11 and 6. she was eating lots and appeared hungry. but when I refused her food it took only a couple of nights and now she goes 12 hours no problem. I think they use milk and boob as a way of getting back to sleep and also get used to food overnight. it's up to you, I'm sure they all drop the feeds eventually but some take longer than others and I'm sure they don't 'need' it at this age.

as kate said - try settling with cuddles. you don't have to 'be mean' it's just what they're used to.

Thanks, keepit, that's reassuring. Might try cutting it down to one feed a night.

Sounds sensible. I knew I shouldn't haven't posted though - up at 10, 11, 3 and 5 last night! And only boobs would do!

My 10 month still feeds during the night. I think he is reverse cycling, he is Definately drinking quite a lot of milk. I feed him at 7pm 9pm he wakes again later on at least once ( I co sleep so have no idea what time!) then feeds about 6am. But he only drinks 4 oz between 6am and 7pm during the day plus breast milk on cereal, he eats lots now and drinks water. Which I guess is what lots of babies do at night if they drink more milk during the day.

He becomes a milk monster when I get in from work! It works for us and I can now express less during the day at work.

You're all so lucky. 5 wakeups is a good night for us. Confort feed back to sleep. Often sleeps latched on. Co sleeping for my own sanity. Can't deal with screaming at night.
