Bf newborn - weight gain

Mrspedro · 30/06/2014 17:47

Baby was 6lb12 leaving hospital after a birth weight of 7lb6.
She gained an oz a day for the first fortnight but the past 12 days has only gained 8oz .... I know it's not a massive drop but should the gain not becoming steadily more rather than less?

I always think that with a newborn, whether they've just done a big poo/had a recent feed must make such a difference to their weigh-ins!

I suppose I'm saying not to worry about a few oz, but keep an eye on the pattern over time. Providing your baby is roughly following a line on the growth chart I wouldn't sweat the exact oz per day.

Unless you have any other reason to worry? Plenty of wet/dirty nappies? Not jaundiced? BF going OK?

This gain sounds well within normal, mrspedro. What have you been told by your hcps about your baby's growth?

Are you weighing your baby daily? That's very, very often ! Any reason why?

Mrspedro · 30/06/2014 23:06

No tiktok..she was weighed by HV on day 5 and had a GP check up @2wks then HV today (& again next Monday).. No particular reason, just the aftercare that's offered here.

HV seemed happy enough with her ( lots of runny mustard coloured nappies.. Wet on every nappy change)... I guess I just expected more of gain considering time spent on the boob

All sounds normal, all sounds well. No reason on what you have said here to worry or be concerned :)
