What is wrong with my breast milk? Warning; TMI

I am weaning DS2 at the moment and to get my milk flowing when I am about to feed I squeeze the first bit of my breast milk out.

My right breast was normal but when I squeezed my milk out of my left breast it came out as what can only be described as yellow snot and it came it out one big string. It is still like it now.

Is this normal when you cut feeds down or something that I should keep an eye on? I was a bit shocked as my milk in my right breast is fine.

I forgot to add that DS2 is 10MO and feeds twice a day.

Any other symptoms?

I had this but it was green. I could pull it out like strings of spaghetti. But, at the time, I had blood poisoning from infective mastitis and a UTI.

Call a bf helpline?

Had you fed recently from that side? Hind milk is thicker and creamier than fore milk and can be a bit like you describe, especially if you are cutting down feeds you may not produce as much fore milk.

If you have had pain, red patches on your breast or a temperature it could be mastitis.

Could have been a blocked duct that you have just unblocked - you basically get a lovely string of congealed milk when it "pops". If you don't have any symptoms or anything it's unlikely to be mastitis (in fact you have probably headed it off at the pass by unblocking the duct). I'd just keep feeding off that side to your current schedule and maybe try taking lecithin to stop it happening again. If it continues like that you could call one of the BF helplines.
