8 weeks old & still struggling

My 8 week old still struggles to open his mouth wide enough to latch or when his mouth is open enough he sucks a few times, then drops off. We repeat until he flutters, then we start again on the other side... He had tongue tie but we got that sorted.

I've had breast feeding support every week & my position is good, but all they can say is be persistent!

Has anyone experienced this before & does anyone have any advice on how to get him to open his mouth wide enough so that he can get more than my nipple (ouch) in this mouth.

Get his tongue checked again they can re grow.

Also cranial sacral oseopathy really helped my DDs tongue function when our tongue tie was cut, there muscles can be very tense trying to use them.

I was shown to pinch the areola (spelling?) and nipple so it's kind of flat, and then let baby put that in his mouth to get a bigger part in :) Works fine for me when little one isn't opening wide enough!

Oh, and also if you poke your nipple at his nose and upper lip, it can make him open up wider :)

You could try this?

I had this problem with ds, also tongue tied and cut at 4 weeks but didn't improve much. Things got much better when his mouth grew at 11 weeks or so. We went on to feed until 15 months after a hellish start.

He rarley respond to nose to nipple, rather than opening wide, he licks instead! I'll give flipple/deep latch a go next feed, fingers crossed!

I see a chiropractor & I've taken DS to see him 4x & it certainly helped relieved his silent reflux. Hoping it'll help with wide mouth/latch too.

I was going to give us a deadline of 10weeks. I can't fed in public, the only reason being that I'm self conscious of our struggle to feed! & painful feeds that last over an hr sometimes are just awful...
