Formula feeding?

A petition to make formula feeding less of a taboo in the public eye. Breast feeding is encouraged and this is great but those who choose/have to formula feed for many different reasons get a raw deal on the support side, from midwife advice to just simply receiving loyalty points, formula is seen as the bad option.

I don't feel it's a taboo at all. I agree it would be helpful for a bit more advice/support but that's about it really.

Given that in many places the bf rate at 6 weeks is 20%ish, it's hardly taboo. When I had my first I ff because I had no friends who bfed and it was the opposite issue. yes, I do think that on mn and maybe in a few (mostly very privileged) suburbs the rate may be higher, but on a national level ff is very much the norm past a very young age. The lack of loyalty points is because of a sensible dwvision that there can't be any promotion of formula, as supplies (for example in the hospital) have been shown to decrease bfing rates among women who are otherwise keen.

My son grew up perfectly healthy on formula, and I think it is ALWAYS okay for a mother to choose formula - but that doesn't mean that I see any need to promote the use of an alternative that is on a population level, more likely to lead to extra costs for struggling mothers and less immunity of small babies. Would much rather see funds put towards bfing support and training for midwives and hvs, for example.
