I think to start the new thread off we should reintroduce ourselves and our babies for the sake of our own memories and also for any newbies who may join Smile

I have a 10 week old DS who is EBF. Has been sleeping through the night for the last week and I'm just waiting patiently for things to go downhill as I'm sure they will Smile

But at least you know he can do it now MrsM. Maybe he'll surprise you and do a longer stretch after this feed.

I'm just heading to bed post dreamfeed. She's slept until 5:30ish for the last few days but hasn't gone back down after that feed. Our room is ridiculously light though, so I might dig out our old Gro travel black out blinds and see if they make any difference. Not got a clue where they are though and there's no chance I'm venturing into the spider infested loft to find out!

We have a 7pm bedtime here. DD2 usually seems ready for it by then and tends to go down without much fuss. It's usually 7:30pm by the time we've finished DD1's stories though. At the moment bedtime is a lot easier than it was when DD1 was a baby. We had to do some hardcore rocking and shush patting to get her down for 7pm. I swear we've done nothing different this time round so am inclined to think we've just got lucky this time round! I'm really thankful for it though as I love having a bit of a break in the evening.

Cariad007 · 09/06/2014 00:22

Lasted less than 2 hours. Am bloody well over this. So fed up.

mrsmugoo · 09/06/2014 03:01

Just done second feed, I think he lasted about 2.5 hours again, which isn't bad for a second stretch.

I definitely "know" he can do it - I've had quite a few isolated great nights including a couple of 5 hour stretches, they just never seem to build on previous progress. He just randomly does then and no matter how much I try to analyse the conditions that preceded it, he will revert back.

I've got to the stage where I literally go to bed when he does even if it's 8pm now. I'm just gritting my teeth and waiting for it to pass. I almost find the catnapping on me/in my arms more gruelling as it means I have literally no time for myself to rest or to just be myself or spend some time with DH.

mrsmugoo · 09/06/2014 03:02

Sympathies Cariad - it's horrible. Hang on in there girl x

Cariad007 · 09/06/2014 04:00

And he's up again :( Lasted over 3 hours this time - when did 3 hours become what I consider a decent stretch of sleep?? On top of that his breathing sounds very congested so I think he might've come down with a summer cold. I suspect I have too as what I'm feeling is more Han just hayfever. FML Angry

Cannotbelieveit · 09/06/2014 04:41

Sorry cariad there is no rhyme or reason to these babies actions.

DS just did 7.5 hours so I am very very grateful after his last 5-6 nights not being good. Will most likely stay up after this feed as I have lots to do I order to be able to leave the house at 9am with both boys.

mrsmugoo · 09/06/2014 05:36

Up again here and suspect he's not going back down (FFS) as he was wide eyed when I picked him up rather than sleepy and making hungry noises.

Really don't want to get up at 5:30!

mrsmugoo · 09/06/2014 05:42

Well he is asleep and has just done massive fart so hopefully he'll stay asleep for at least an hour (please god!)

Writerwannabe83 · 09/06/2014 05:49

After what I thought would be a terrible night DS went just over 7.5 hours.

He's feeding now and hen hopefully he'll go back to sleep - I have a major headache and want to go back to bed.

Sorry your nights have been a bit rubbish mrsmugoo and cariad

Just tried to put him down but he's having none of it. Making one more attempt to feed him a bit more.

Writerwannabe83 · 09/06/2014 06:14

That's what I do mrsmugoo - just offer more and more milk until he goes to sleep. Another advantage of BF - milk is always on tap.

I put DS back in his MB about 10 minutes who but he's just playing around in there and talking to himself Hmm

Standard normal night Writer! A bad one would be every hour, at least he was going 2 at a time last night.

mrsmugoo · 09/06/2014 06:16

Back asleep in my arms. God I wish I slept as much as he does!

mrsmugoo · 09/06/2014 06:54

Nope, up for the day!

Awake since 5:30 ugh.

Writerwannabe83 · 09/06/2014 07:16

You have my sympathies!!

DS is finally dropping off again....

DH is just making me a cup of tea before he goes to work so once I've drank that I'm going to try for some more sleep myself.

Got another 2 hours out of him. Managed to shower and give ds1 breakfast. Should be able to get to the weighing clinic at 9.30. Wish me luck for a good weight gain then all this feeding is well worth it!

puggywug81 · 09/06/2014 08:33

Sympathies mrsmugoo and cariad.

Fin had a fairly good night but he was grizzly, I on the other hand feel like crap I'm so full of a cold I'm having to ram tissues up my nose so I don't drip on Fin while I feed him!

KateTheShrew · 09/06/2014 08:51

Sorry you've had bad nights mugoo and cariad Sad

DS had a great night, but mine was pretty awful.

He went down at 8.30, and woke for feeds at 11.15 and 2.30. At 2.30 he peed through his clothes while I was feeding him so I had to put the light on and do a full change, meaning he was wide awake. But I put him down in his bednest awake and he self settled and was asleep in 10 mins. He has NEVER done that before! Then he slept til 6.30 which is a 4 hour gap between feeds! So proud of him Grin

I, on the other hand, didn't get back to sleep until about 5.30. I am missing out on so much sleep!! Why oh why can't I sleep now he's sleeping better?? DH took him as usual this morning so I got another hour but it's just not enough Sad

Sorry, I feel bad for whinging when others are being kept awake and I'm essentially keeping myself awake somehow. I go to bed exhausted and drop off quickly. Why does my body/brain thinks it needs to stay awake after an initial 3 or 4 hours of sleep?!?

TwentiethCenturyGirl · 09/06/2014 09:30

I went through a similar phase with DD1 Kate and agree that it is hellish. In the end I downloaded the Paul McKenna 'I can help you sleep' app and used to listen to the trance bit when i couldn't sleep. I found it helped me zone out and drop off eventually. It completely goes against the grain to be awake when the baby is asleep - you have my sympathy.

We had a good night here but DD2 seems a bit grumpy and
unputtdownable this morning, so I think it might be a long day. Managed to get her down for a nap before but she's just been woken up by a burglar alarm down the road. Grrrrrh!

Writerwannabe83 · 09/06/2014 10:35

Just when I thought DS was dropping off at 7.15am he sprung back into life and then didn't sleep for another hour. He's only just woke up gain though so at least I got another couple of hours.

I used to be like you kate and really struggle to get back to sleep after night time feeds - usually taking at least an hour to fall asleep after DS has. It's exhausting. Gradually it improved a little but it still takes me 15-30 minutes. I think it's because my brain can't switch off and can't believe DS is really asleep, it's like I'm just waiting for him to wake up again.

He's having a feed now and actually looks really sleepy. He only woke up because his own trump startled him.

Good luck with your weigh-in cannot - it's always nice to see a good gain. I'm looking forward to seeing how much Dzs has put on this Friday as over the last few days he's been feeding more often (waking in the night again) and also taking both breasts at each feed.

Thanks twentieth and writer -- I might try the Paul McKenna app. I think it's getting worse Sad it used to take me an hour to fall asleep and I thought that was bad, but now I'm regularly awake for 2-3 hours in the night!

Cannotbelieveit · 09/06/2014 11:09

Thanks writer!

Just had Ryder weighed, he was 9lb10oz at 3+5 and was 11lb10oz today at 5+2! Gaining really well and on 82nd centile! Go boobs!!!

DS was 8lb 5oz at birth so around the 70th percentile but when he was last weighed and measured a month ago he had shot up to 91st for weight and 98th for length. Need to go and get him weighed this week but I already can't carry him for too long without getting achy arms!

Writerwannabe83 · 09/06/2014 12:09

My DS was 8lb 8oz at birth but dropped to 7lb 11oz in 48 hours due to feeding difficulties. It took him just under two weeks to regain his birth weight. He was weighed regularly by the HV due to the weight loss and the fact he was jaundiced until he was 8 weeks old, but he has remained on the 50th percentile and is cruising along nicely. He's only on the 25th for his length Smile
