I think to start the new thread off we should reintroduce ourselves and our babies for the sake of our own memories and also for any newbies who may join Smile

I have a 10 week old DS who is EBF. Has been sleeping through the night for the last week and I'm just waiting patiently for things to go downhill as I'm sure they will Smile

Great work MrsM! Sorry midnight Sad

Writerwannabe83 · 04/07/2014 07:04

Sounds like most us had bad nights.

DS screamed until gone 23.00pm then he fell asleep with exhaustion I think.

Then he woke up screaming 45 minutes later.

So we gave him some Calpol and about 30 minutes later he fell asleep.

He then woke up at 6am.

I just don't know what's got into him. He hasn't been like this for months and months. Me and DH are shattered.

We so needed a good night in preparation for the funeral today but it's the worst one we've had in ages Sad

Bit of a crap night. Back to wake ups every 2 hours and up for the day by 7am Angry He needs to understand that Mummy is not a morning person!!

FrankelandFilly · 04/07/2014 08:38

I wonder if the heat is a factor, DD had me up 5 or 6 times from 2.30am onwards. She wasn't hungry or crying, but she was fidgeting and making squawking noises Hmm we were up for the day at 6.30.

writer, I hope the funeral goes as well as these things can today.

midnight1983 · 04/07/2014 08:48

Writer - good luck with the funeral.

Yes, I think the heat is a factor for sure, my boy always has bad nights when it's hot.

Cannotbelieveit · 04/07/2014 08:49

Hope today is as ok as it can be writer x

TwentiethCenturyGirl · 04/07/2014 09:00

Going against the grain here as we had a good night: 7:30 - 6:30 with just one feed when I woke her before going to bed at 11.

We've had a rough couple of nights this week though (including a 4:30 start one day!) so think we all needed the sleep!

Hope everything goes as well as can be today writer

johull · 04/07/2014 09:02

7 hours :-) the most ever!!!!!!

puggywug81 · 04/07/2014 09:25

Good luck for everything today writer

KateTheShrew · 04/07/2014 09:53

Thinking of you writer, hope it all goes smoothly today.

We had a pretty good night. Bed at 8.30, up at 10.20, 3 and 6.20. However at 10.20 he didn't do his usual routine of fidget, grizzle and then cry, instead he burst into full-on screaming out of nowhere! And then when I picked him up it was pretty clear he was still asleep -- his eyes were closed and his head was really heavy against my arm, yet he was screaming and seemed totally distraught Sad I fed him in the end and he calmed down eventually without ever fully waking up. He's done this several times over the last week or so, usually about 1.5-2 hours after we've put him to bed. Does anyone else's baby do this? Or does anyone know what causes it? He really does seem to be screaming/crying in his sleep. Could it be bad dreams/night terrors? He seems a bit young for that to me (5.5 months) but I'm not sure when they start to dream!

Cariad007 · 04/07/2014 10:04

Kate, yes DS does that. He gets very distressed and I think he's awake but then I realise his eyes are still shut. He did it yesterday during his afternoon nap so I just cuddled him. Once he opened his eyes and saw I was there he was all smiles.

Hope all goes as well as it can today Writer

midnight1983 · 04/07/2014 11:02

Kate and Cariad, my baby has done this since 3 months. I usually put him on the boob and he relaxes.

midnight1983 · 04/07/2014 14:26

Sorry, the end of that should have said I think there is some separation anxiety at this age?

Baby can now roll both ways! Baby proofing begins...

Cannotbelieveit · 04/07/2014 22:36

Just done last feed. Little later than yesterday as I had to pop out. Gonna transfer him to cot in a bit and hope for 9 hours again!! (6-7 is acceptable tho Wink).

Weigh in at SW went well, I lost 6lbs on my first week!! Smile

mrsmugoo · 05/07/2014 01:19

Evening all

I put DS down for bed after his feed at 7:30 and it took him half an hour of flapping around and grizzling to drop off by himself. He slept all the way from 8 - 12:40 which is amazing!

I've just popped him back in and I can hear some little grunts but I think he'll drop off without a fuss this time. In fact I'm switching my light off anyway!

I've been feeling pretty frazzled today as effectively I'm making him cry it out, but he seems to go to sleep quicker like this than the "gentler" methods like PUPD that just agitate him. If it only takes half an hour of fuss for him to sleep with no intervention from me but up to an hour and a half of drama with me lifting him out every 5 bloody minutes ruining my back then despite the fact I always said I'd never leave him to cry, I know this is the right thing to do.

So far so good anyway!

johull · 05/07/2014 02:26

Put DD to bed at normal time (10:30) and she woke at 1 which is gutting. Yesterday she did 10:30-3. Trying to work out what I've done differently. I think it's got something to do with how much milk I'm giving her during the day. Can that be right? She only wakes if she's hungry so I'm guessing I just didn't give her enough throughout the day but she just falls sleep during feeds all the time & I hate force feeding her. Any advice? X

mrsmugoo · 05/07/2014 03:25

He settled straight back off (yay!) and is up again after a couple of hours...

mrsmugoo · 05/07/2014 03:33

Johull I wouldn't over analyse! Babies just do what they do and are inconsistent for no particular reason. I doubt it has anything to do with how much she's been fed in the day - breast milk is digested in 90 minutes anyway so if she's waking to feed it's just because she's hungry/thirsty. My DS went almost 4 hours tonight but mostly he only lasts 2 - it's a mystery!

mrsmugoo · 05/07/2014 09:23

So I popped DS back in after his second feed. He wriggled and kicked for a bit and had a minor grizzle but I had switched the light out and gone back to sleep so he must have as well!

I brought him in with me at 6:15 after another feed and he slept til 8!

I feel a lot better after last night - think I actually managed 8 or 9 hours (broken) sleep!

FrankelandFilly · 05/07/2014 09:43

Sounds like things are improving rapidly mrsm.

I agree with the others johull, babies are very unpredictable and you can do everything exactly the same way every day and still get a different result! My best advice is just to go with he flow and accept there will be good days and bad.

We had a better nights sleep last night, I only had to get up 3 times to settle her, but her appetite is still down. I'm putting it down to the vaccinations, plus she's in the middle of a major developmental leap according to The Wonder Weeks, so hopefully in a few days she'll be back to normal - whatever that is!

mrsmugoo · 05/07/2014 11:15

Yes last night was good and he's currently napping in his cot after I put him in drowsy after a feed and left him to it. It took him half an hour of wriggling and a little grizzle but he's dropped off with his fingers in his mouth bless him!

As always, I'm not counting my chickens but am committed to letting him self soothe from now on (unless he's poorly or something)

Cariad007 · 05/07/2014 11:30

Usual night with DS waking up a few times but DP took him around 7.30 this morning so I managed a bit more shut eye. DS's head was feeling very warm so I took his temperature and it was 37.5 - not overly high but higher than normal for him. Have dosed him with Calpol so hope that helps. We have to go out for some flat viewings today but perhaps the fresh air will do him good.

snoozysleeper · 05/07/2014 19:29

Few bad nights in a row with LO...He napped today for around 5 hours total, sadly great majority whilst we had visitors so I didn't get the extra rest but I'm hoping this means that he will sleep better tonight as he won't be overtired/irritated?
I've also left window open all day today to keep room cooler

Feeding atm and then taking to Moses basket within next hour, fingers crossed!

Thinking of you writer

mrsmugoo · 05/07/2014 19:50

Only managed one other nap today so a total of 2 x 30 minute naps so by bedtime feed he fell asleep on the boob and I've lifted him into the cot asleep. It's a bit of a cop-out on the self settling front but he was just so exhausted clearly.

I feel a bit battle weary as I've listened to him grizzle a lot today. I still don't know if I'm doing the right thing effectively sleep training him so early. I keep having wobbles in my head that I'm being harsh and I should go back to co-sleeping/naps in my arms just to make sure he gets the sleep he needs??

This parenting lark is so hard!
