I think to start the new thread off we should reintroduce ourselves and our babies for the sake of our own memories and also for any newbies who may join Smile

I have a 10 week old DS who is EBF. Has been sleeping through the night for the last week and I'm just waiting patiently for things to go downhill as I'm sure they will Smile

Yay :) DD just slept from 10-5.30its amazing how 5.30 can feel like a lie in after being kept awake from 4 for the last 8 weeks. I stopped the infacol and Coleif over the weekend and she seems to be less unsettled!

My DD weighed 7lb 2oz at birth 7lb7 by day and 9lb14 by 4.5 weeks. She has grown so much sine then I wonder what Fridays weigh in will show.

Writerwannabe83 · 10/06/2014 06:11

Morning all,

DS slept through until 6am - that's the latest he's ever slept until.

He's just having a feed now and then it's the million dollar question....will he go back to sleep? Hope so!!

Well we've been awake since 5. Boy woke to feed but was clearly wide awake, tried putting him back in the Moses basket but he was making lots of noise and didn't want him to wake up DH. We've been downstairs for an hour, he's just gone back on the boob so hopefully this is him dropping off again!

mrsmugoo · 10/06/2014 06:45

Up for the day here - which is better than yesterday's 5:30 start! Only two wakings. Can't really ask for more than that!

Writer - your baby slept to 6am and you want more sleep... That's just greedy ;)

Cannotbelieveit · 10/06/2014 08:07

He only managed another hour until a feed then had to sleep on me. Ironically when I had to get up with ds1 he's now decided to sleep in his cot a bit longer! Hoping for his usual 9-10pm bedtime tonight!

Writerwannabe83 · 10/06/2014 08:47

mrsmugoo - you are right Grin He fell asleep again at 7am and as tempted as I was to go back to sleep myself I decided instead to get up, shower, have my breakfast, do some housework and get some washing on. It's gorgeously sunny over here already so whilst it can dry outside my plan is to get as much washing done as possible!!

mcbaby - I had a phase of DS being really, really unsettled which me and DH thought was down to wind but we made a decision to cut out the Infacol and the Gripe water and within 48 hours he was a different baby. Maybe constantly using more than one wind remedy can make things worse?! I still use the Gripe Water occasionally, maybe 2-3 times a week and I only give him one dose per day and that's usually before he goes to bed.

Morning all! Got slightly more sleep last night thank goodness. DS didn't wake for his first feed until 3.30 Shock (a record for him I think!) and then self-settled again at 4 (amazing). I still had problems getting back to sleep, but instead of lying in bed got up at 4.30 for a little while. Back to bed at 5 and managed to doze off by about 5.30, which isn't too bad. Unfortunately DS decided he wanted to be up for the day at 6.15, but DH took him so I got another hour. So very broken sleep after 3.30, but I think I got 5.5 hours before that so can't complain. Hopefully won't feel too knackered today as it's lovely and sunny and I want to go into town to get a gift for my friend who's just had a baby girl Smile and maybe some clothes for me

Cariad007 · 10/06/2014 09:37

Well after a dramatic evening where he didn't go down til nearly 1030, he slept til 1.15 and then til about 5.15 and then til 8.30. So not too bad. Had to get him out of bed to clear the snot out of his nose first thing. He hated it and screamed but seemd better after. He snot sucker arrives today but am not sure when I should use it - if he's awake he won't have any of it and if he's sleeping it'll wake him up after just one nostril!

Writerwannabe83 · 10/06/2014 09:52

I bought a snot sucker and it was really, really crap. Worst £10 I ever spent. I threw it away in the end!

You will have to let me know if yours is any good. At the moment I'm using cotton buds and my fingers Grin

OP posts:
Cariad007 · 10/06/2014 09:58

The one I've orders is called a Nosfrida. My niece had loads of colds when she was tiny and my sister in law swear by it. The bulb type snot suckers are useless though.

KateTheShrew · 10/06/2014 10:15

Interested to hear about the efficacy of about snot suckers Wink I've been contemplating buying one but so far have just been using my fingers. Never imagined motherhood would involve picking someone else's nose!

FrankelandFilly · 10/06/2014 10:59

Those of you that are bottle feeding, how long does your baby take to feed? Someone commented yesterday the other day that DD drinks very quickly - she can polish off 6oz in under 10 minutes sometimes! She's always been a hungry baby but never demands more milk, no matter how quickly she finishes her bottle. My friend said her little boy was the same and she ended up weaning him at 17 weeks because he was just so hungry!

Writerwannabe83 · 10/06/2014 11:39

Well drinking from a bottle is far easier than suckling at a breast.

Bottle fed babies may seem like monster feeders when really they are gulping it down that quick just because they can. It doesn't necessarily mean they are hungry and need weaning.

Like you say, your DD doesn't demand more milk so the 6oz is obviously satisfying her. When the time comes when she seems unsettled/unhappy after her 6oz then just increase the volume to 7oz.

As long as DD is happy, which she obviously is, then don't let your friend's comments worry you. Every baby is different Smile

Afternoon everyone, latest to the part as ever.

Intro: DD is 19 weeks, ebf and wakes me up 2 or 3 times each night. Pleased to say she appears to be past the 4 month sleep regression and her feeds are settling down again.

I haven't been keeping up with posts, there's barely been time to breathe what with my brother's shameless attempt to get money and presents youngest christening, in laws, best friend's difficult pregnancy and a stinking rotten cold, though scrolling through a couple have stood out.

Scheduled naps/feeds whatever have been a lifesaver, DD settled down so much with a fairly strict routine... then she stopped gaining weight quick enough so I started feeding her every 2 hours. She feeds for a max of 20 mins (this was all my nips could handle during the "oh a dog, whats that noise? Whats that light? I love you sooo much mummy!" Phase) and shes just kept that time after an hour or so of being awake she screams the place down more often sleeps until the end of the 2 hour mark, lather rinse repeat.

And snot suckers?.. really?? I just pick it.

I also don't post at night as DD would wake up too much, however seeing everyone else in the same boat helps big time

Cariad007 · 10/06/2014 17:53

Well the Nosefrida snot sucker does work! He doesn't like it but it does the trick, especially if you use some saline spray first to loosen things up.

PollyP0429 · 10/06/2014 20:05

Had the last feed of the day at 7, and was wide awake after. Refuses ppoint blank to be put dowm, thank god for my mum coming round tonight was getting very wound up :(

I feel awful getting angry at her, its the bloody wind again so I KNOW it's not her fault. At 4 and a half months surely it should be getting better not worse?!

mrsmugoo · 10/06/2014 20:20

Evening all. Just about to place a sleeping boy down for the night, eat some food and clamber in with him. Been out and about all day so we are both exhausted!

Cannotbelieveit · 10/06/2014 20:24

DS fell asleep near 7 and I'm waiting for him to wake for his last feed! Please be a better night than last night!!

Writerwannabe83 · 10/06/2014 20:24

My schedule is all over the place. I have been in A&E with DS all afternoon (all is now fine) so his feeding and sleeping patters have been very erratic. We haven't long got back from the hospital and he's still asleep in his car seat - he's had such a rough afternoon I just don't have the heart to wake him.

cariad - I'm glad you are having fun with your snot sucker!!

polly - I completely empathise. DS is coming up for 12 weeks and he stil has the odd night of screaming with his wind. It is so frustrating and although I know it isn't his fault that doesn't stop me feeling angry. I feel awful just saying it. But we both know we aren't actually angry with the baby, just angry with the wind Smile If DS is ever really, really hard to settle because of the wind and he's absolutely screaming then I give him a one off dose of Gripe Water.

mrsmuggoo - I hope you get some more 3-4 hour stretches tonight Smile

FrankelandFilly · 10/06/2014 20:29

Welcome aboard Polly, sorry you're dealing with a windy/screamy baby. Hope your mum gives you some respite.

writer - A&E? Hope things are ok now and you get a decent nights rest.

DD has had a better day today, having been a right grumpy pants yesterday. However she has had a lot of dirty nappies today (6 compared to her normal 1 or 2) so I wonder if she's had a bit of an upset tummy and that's what made her grouchy.

Weigh-in tomorrow morning, I'm hoping for around the 14lb mark so keep your fingers crossed for us!

Cariad007 · 10/06/2014 21:08

DS was a bit of a nightmare today just screaming and screaming. He managed a 3 hour nap this afternoon and has been asleep for the last hour and a half, meaning DP and I could eat dinner together. I am hoping that this sleep doesn't mean he'll be up all night.

Cannotbelieveit · 10/06/2014 21:38

Frank fingers crossed for 14lb!!

Writer hope everything is ok?

He's just fed but I'm not convinced it was the last one? Shock

FrankelandFilly · 10/06/2014 21:44

Thanks cannot, she was 12lb 3 weeks ago and that was a gain of 1lb 6oz in two weeks so a 2lb gain over 3 weeks should be about right. I stress a bit about her weight as we had issues early on - she had lost 1lb at 5 days old and then when I had all my breast feeding problems she failed to gain any weight at all, in fact she lost a couple of ounces, at 6 weeks. It's one of the reasons (of which there are many!) I ended up switching to formula.

Writerwannabe83 · 10/06/2014 22:01

Thanks frank and cannot - he is ok. I was an absolute wreck at the time (head injury) and had to call 999. I was so scared that something really bad was going to happen. They kept us in hospital for 4 hours but were happy that he is ok.

I woke him at 9pm and me and DH gave him his bath and then I fed him. He's been asleep now for about 20 minutes and although I hope he sleeps through until morning again I'm not convinced.

FrankelandFilly · 10/06/2014 22:03

Oh writer how scary for you. Glad that all seems ok now, but make sure you take it easy and look after yourself too, you've had a big shock.
