Which Formula to choose??

Hi all

My daughter is 4 weeks old and I been formula feeding for 3 weeks now using SMA Gold. She is gaining weight and feeding well but she has regular constipation and really strains to pass anything. I have to give her water each day to ease this. Over the last few days she has been quite unsettled too and wont settle unless she is held, she is also still feeding every three hours too. Would changing to a different type of formula help? and if so which one would be best??

Thanks Lynn x

We had this problem with SMA. I took her to a friend who is an osteopath and she had a cranial massage. She also mentioned that she had heard that a few people had problems with digestion and constipation on SMA and so we swapped to cow and gate. Didn't know which had the better effect but she was a different baby, no constipation and settled much better.

I'd run this one past your HV if I were you. It's not good to chop and change formula often as they do get used to a brand. Perhaps your HV could 'unofficially' suggest something for you. We used farleys with DS for 4 weeks and no constipation but we had to switch to enfamil because he had reflux so can't really recommend it.

When i eventually put my children on to formula i used Aptamil first, i did try SMA with both my kids but both of them disagreed with it & they were sick all the time.
