Lip tie Division

Hi

Does anyone have any info on this? There's lots of snippets mentioning it but wonder if anyone has had it done - successes or failures?

My DD has had her lip tie cut but feeding taking an age (1 1/2 hrs) and having to top up with expressed milk afterwards as she can't feed effectively enough- very tough with DS (4) so am either stopping b feeding and just expressing (but have supply issues so not sure how sustainable that is) or having lip tie sorted out but it feels an extreme thing to do?

Was it just the lip that was revised?

Lip tie pretty much always comes hand in hand with a tongue tie. Usually a posterior one. Those are the ones that so many HCPs miss because they are not familiar with them.

I'm sorry but I can't quite work out from your post whether your child had had the lip tie divided or not.

My DC had it done at about 9 months by the lovely Dr. Levinkind in London. It wasn't the overnight miracle I'd been hoping for but over time it definitely had improved things even though he still has a tendency to tuck his lip under.

It wasn't a major intervention. DC didn't seem upset by it. It definitely helped with his milk transfer as he did speed up afterwards. It didn't help with pain for me though so if that's a concern I would spend money first on a top class Lactation Consultant as it was only after mine suggested different techniques for latching on that feeding became truly painfree.

Hi sorry had tongue tie divided by my midwife on day one, lip tie only diagnosed after I increased my milk supply and baby still not gaining much weight. I'm topping up with expressed milk but the constant expressing after long feeds is too hard on me and DS so I guess I am hoping for an overnight success but sounds like there are no guarantees

So lip tie not cut have an apt with dr Levinkind next week. Do have a great LC but it is all becomming a bit consuming

Dr L is great. If there is still a tie lurking under the tongue, he will find it!

There are a couple of facebook tongue tie support groups. Ask to join and you will find a wealth of experience from others who have been in the same boat.

As themummyonthebus says, it's not always an instant cure, it can take a while for the baby to relearn how to use the tongue. Ties can cause tension in the jaw/neck/head etc which might need released with a few session with a cranial osteopath.
