A few BF questions

Hello,

I have cut down BF my 19 month old to only once before bed. We're trying to conceive. I've had periods since 4 weeks after birth but seem not to be fertile. This month I really thought I was pregnant but have now got my period. Does anyone have any advice / experience of this?

Secondly, since cutting down BF I feel really hungry all the time - but why would this be? Surely I should be less hungry as baby is taking less from me?! Not sure whether to give in and eat or whether I'll just get fat. Did you put on weight after stopping/cutting down bf?

Thanks

Exclusively and regularly breastfeeding can definitely lower fertility but I can't see why once a day would affect this.

Are you already overweight?
Are you stressing about getting pregnant?
Do you smoke and/or drink?
Does your partner drink?

If none of the above is the case and fertility issues don't run in your family is give it 2 years of FTC. If by then you are not pregnant id go to the gp and get further tests done. Also are you above 35? Fertility drastically declines from then on.

In regard to eating I have no idea. Breastfeeding has always made me hungry and now I pump twice a day and feed around 4am it's a lot less than I used to but still get hungry.

When your hungry eat a healthy snack - that way you are dealing with your hunger but are not going to pile on the pounds.

I wish you good luck ttc!

Good ideas iirc! No I'm not overweight at all, quite slim and a bit below 35. It's all ok but I suppose I am eager to be pregnant again (but not just fat)!
