I have mastitis

This is dc3 and I breastfed my other two so I thought it would be straight forward this time.

I also had pph so I feel drained and I'm crying all the time. I feel guilty I have no time for my other two.

I wanted to enjoy number three and my last but it feels awful at the moment.

I'm dreading next feed as I'm so sore. I have antibiotics and I'm seeing midwife later about assessment for baby's tongue tie. Thought I could work through it but obviously it is affecting latch.

I will be devastated if I can't breastfeed this one but right now all I want to do is curl up in bed and let someone else bottle feed her.

Have you got the money to get the tt sorted privately. It's between £100 - 200 and would happen much much faster than waiting for nhs referral.
How old is your baby?

Ps - have you dealt with mastitis before? google reverse pressure massage. It can really help. Take ibuprofen. Hot water. Cold compress.

She's a week old. Screamed for two hours last night, settled at 11pm and only took one feed between then and 8am.

Shes asleep again most of morning. I should be feedingher more?

However she was constantly at the breast yesterday.

How do I go private

Have you got a pump? You could try expressing the feeding it to her in a small, stetilised cup. Maybe an egg cup or a doidy cup if you have one? Try expressing after the feed then you can top her up.

You will get through this. It's only been a week. You'll be ok, your baby will be ok and so will your older dc. Are you getting any support?

The crying might actually be a good sign. Milk hormones make you terribly weepy, remember?

Once you've done this feed ca you hand her to her daddy and go for a sleep? You'll still be very weak. I hope you're eating. ..

has anyone given you any tips on feeding a tongue tied baby? I've asked a friend to come along and advise so she might have some ideas. Take care of yourself. It's ok to feel overwhelmed and wobbly even if you have done this before. Be kind to yourself

You poor thing, I had a similar experience - DD had a posterior tongue tie that GP said "wasn't that bad" and refused to refer for NHS treatment. We ended up getting it snipped privately at 6 weeks.

I developed a cracked nipple within a week of DD being born due to her bad latch and then at 5 weeks got mastitis. I soldiered on for another 3 weeks, expressing from the mastitis boob, which was too swollen to feed from, and it just reached a stage where I was dreading every feed because DD would scream with frustration at not getting enough milk and I would end up sobbing because I couldn't satisfy my baby. The final nail in the coffin was a weigh in which showed she'd lost weight over 10 days rather than gained anything.

It was a very hard decision but I decided to switch to formula last weekend. I had so wanted to EBF to 6 months but I was making myself, and DD miserable. Since the switch we haven't looked back, DD is a much happier contented baby now that she has a full tummy and I'm able to relax and enjoy my time with her. She's also gained back all of her lost weight and more.

Yes I still feel bad about giving up BF but I tell myself I fed her for 8 weeks under very challenging circumstances and I'm bloody proud of that. You have to do what makes you happy and keeps you sane.

We had our privately revised by laser with Dr Levinkind. We didn't have any choice of provider as DD was older and not BF (despite me trying and nealy dying). But I know of Anne Dobson and Dr Roberts (he's in Huddersfield).

Youc an self-refer to all of them.

There are lots of tips on feeding with ties, refulx, all of it on the forums. And there's usually lactation consultants about, and dental/ent specialists who can help you too.

Please be kind to yourself. PND or not you're doing your best.

All the guys I mentioned are well-versed in the "there's nothing wrong with that tongue/lip" bollocks you'll usually get told. They won't revise without need and they usually get good reviews. I've seen mixed reviews for them all TBH. But they're usually very good. Just keep fighting mamma. And if you want/need to use formula, do so. Your mental health is waaay more important that anyone gives Mummies credit for.

I completely understand OP, I'm struggling and keep crying too. My 13 day old baby had his tongue tie released privately yday and we both have thrush which I am finding so painful especially on top of raw chomped nipples.
The NHS gave us a tongue tie date for 2 weeks but my midwife gave me details of someone who does it privately. We gave a donation of £100 which is their recommended amount. I think his latch is a bit better already but I'm not sure if he's not feeding as efficiently, is just more hungry or if there is something being caused by the thrush but I've had 2 90 min feeding sessions in the past 24 house and he's still been rooting and grizzly afterwards and the thought of feeding more after that is awful.
