Breast reduction concerns...

Hey all... I had a breast reduction 10 years ago and they warned me at the time that I might not be able to breastfeed...
I just wanted to see if anyone had successfully breastfed, or not, after a reduction? Or know anyone with this experience...
It's a little while away yet but just wanted to ask around
Thanks so much x

Check out www.bfar.org and the book 'Making More Milk' by Diana West.

I didn't have surgery myself but I have supported several mothers with breastfeeding after a reduction. The fact your surgery was so long ago is positive as ducts have a better chance to recanalise and even nerves can repair.

Not all post-reduction mothers can develop a full milk supply but it rarely means you can't 'breastfeed'.

Try and find a lactation consultant with experience in this area (www.lcgb.org) or look for an experienced volunteer breastfeeding counsellor.

The more prepared you are in pregnancy, the better your chances. The first few days are particularly crucial.
