SMA Gold Price Hike

Last month the price of SMA Gold 900g tin increased from £8.75 to £9.99 in Asda, Sainsburys, Tesco and Boots - this is a 14% increase. Meaning its now the same price as Aptamil. I have spoke to SMA who say its because of a price increase in the ingredients they use however none of the other brands prices have increased and I would assume the core ingredients are the same. I am furious that they have been allowed to increase it so significantly - it's baby milk not a luxury item. I really want to take this further but not sure how, any advice?

Sorry no advice other than to say buy it from Aldi, it's consistently been at least £1 cheaper than all other supermarkets.
It might not jus be ingredients forcing the rise but other overheads such as workforce, rent, energy.

I guess the formula companies know that they've got their customers over a barrel, as it's not like they can stop buying it. It's also unlikely that customers will swap brands as sometimes babies don't like the change. Their priority is to make a profit, sadly, rather than have the best interest of their customers at heart.

If your baby doesn't mind different formulas then you could try switching to a cheaper one.

I'd switch to a cheaper brand. Not sure much else can be done to curtail formula companies - lots of people object to the existing laws.

Thanks for the replies :-)

I wont switch to another brand as much as I would like to not give them my business my baby is happy on SMA.

It just infuriates me that they can get away with it grrrr!! I have never known anything I purchase to inflate in price by 14% overnight. I am going to send the info through to the press and they can pick it up if they choose too (hopefully they will).
