I'm bfing dd now 2 days old, but it really hurts. And I meant really sore. Is it meant to? Apparently she's latching on fine, but she's really made a mess of my nipples too lol they're all bloody and bruised! Will this pass?

Just find out when the hospital drop-ins are (call the ante-natal ward) and - well - drop in! Really, it can much such a HUGE difference. People arrive in shreds, floods of tears, and go out feeling quite calm and positive. NOthing works for everyone, of course, but it really is worth a try.

oohh- poor thing! I remember suddenly having rock hard boobs the size of pamela andersons - was agony. Didn't help the baby to latch on either as too flipping hard and pointy for them to get a mouthful. Have you tried expressing a bit from each side before offering to baby? Lying in a hot bath and expressing a bit might help. Hope the MW is helpful.
Now your milk is in though baby will get a full tummy so maybe need to feed less? Thinking of you

Maybe try a bit of paracetamol too if really sore?

You know I've bf 5 babes and it's ALWAYS painful at the start!!!!
I always think that your nips need a little time to toughen up. It will get easier. Yes your own milk is good for sore nips as is vasaline believe it or not, it stops them drying out and becoming too cracked. If you get very engorged and babe is having trouble latching on try expressing just a little milk either by hand or with a pump. It softens them up just enough to make things easier. Soon your breasts will get used to the job and the milk supply will become regulated and I'm sure you'll start to enjoy things more. Good luck with it.

Oh I remember the "Neeep!!!!" factor from when our girl was a new born. In my case it was painful when she first latched on for the first couple of weeks and then it all just sorted itself out. She sucked so hard it bruised the top of my nipples and then the skin at the end just sort of soggyly flaked off (lovely eh?).

What helped me was Lansinoh (very expensive and worth every penny in my case), air drying my nipples and trying to make a joke of it (just how I deal with the crap things in life - may well not be how you do it).

Hope your midwife was helpful.
