my lo is on comfort milk as she is very unsettled And screams a lot. this hasn't seemed to help and after feeds she seems to get griping pains that cause her to tense and be in a lot of pain, it's heart breaking. the Dr has put her on gaviscon but I'm unsure if this is working. I am tempted to try lactose free milk and gripe water, I was lactose intolerant as a baby and have a lot of allergies. has anyone changed to lactose free formula or have any experiences?

You could try Colief first if you think lactose is the problem? It's just lactase, which is the enzyme necessary for breaking down lactose. For that reason it has very polar reviews as for the babies struggling with lactose it's a miracle cure, and for those that aren't it's totally pointless!
If it works then you could safely assume it's worth switching formulas?

It sounds like cow's milk protein intolerance - lactose intolerance is really very rare in newborns. With your own history I would think the GP shoukd at least give you a trial supply of hydrolysed formula.

Yes agree with above poster, sounds much like cmpa - some gps are reluctant to prescribe hydrolysed formula so go in with a bit of guts about you!

Yep agree or CMPA - my DD has CMPA (we initially thought lactose!) and she's a different baby on hydrolysed formula.
