Does this sound like thrush?

I posted about white nipples earlier in the weeks. I'm now wondering if that's only one part of the problem and whether I also have thrush. So aside from nipple going white on about half the feeds, these are the symptoms:

  • painful nipples, obviously! Intense borderline unbearable letdown pain. It's getting worse - painkillers are now a must.
  • some (fairly mild) discomfort during feeds even when latch appears good. The discomfort is new. BF support team agree latch looks good.
  • pain is much worse at night and also when boobs are very full
  • aching sometimes slightly burning pain in boobs after feeds - uncomfortable but not excruciating. But it's NOT sharp or stabbing pain which I thought thrush was?
  • nipples are pink compared to areola. Don't know if that's normal though?

I'm a bit desperate to get to the bottom of this. I dread feeds and am almost feeling a bit resentful of my lovely DD because of this. We had a really shaky start to BFing but got it sorted and I was starting to enjoy it and feel really bonded with my DD after feeds. I fear that's being damaged because it's so painful and I'm stressed about it. I'm really contemplating giving up - desperately don't want to but I can't cope with this for much longer.

No obvious symptoms in little one though she is prone to fussiness at the boob, especially at night. She often bobs on and off.

DD is six weeks.

Thanks.

Ps. I've had two courses of antibiotics since DD was born, which might be relevant. Second course was double strength.

Is the pain in both breasts highlove?
Have you ever had a period of pain free feeding?

The Breastfeeding Network do good leaflets about pain diagnosis and thrush -should come up if you google.

Yes to both - did have a pain-free week or two. And yes both boobs, though one side seems worse than the other.

Have had a look at breastfeeding network stuff. Am not sure - according to that, maybe not. But the info the LLL site makes me think yes. Hmmm. Interested to hear from anyone who's had it - do these symptoms sound familiar?
