Hi all :),
Ok so I'm trying to breast feed my boy once again, I stoped BF when he was 7 weeks of age, he is now 5 months of age,
My doctor has given me a script to help me I'm taking that 3 times a day, I was told to eat lactation cookies, so I made two batches & eat them all :), bub isn't latching so I'm pumping every 2-3 hours during the day & every 4 over night, I've been doing this for about 2-3 days now & nothing not even a pin drop :/ what's going on I was expecting atleast a pin drop by now, any advice ???
:),

What has the GP prescribed, and what is in the cookies?

I am recovering from a horrendous bout of thrush so have not been feeding my boy for a couple of weeks and as I had low supply anyway I am going to be working to relactate/increase my supply so I will follow this thread with interest. Kellymom has some great resources as does the LLL pages.

I relactated with a younger baby after a months break.
It took about 3 weeks to really see milk coming out and 4 months to drop the formula all together .

OP with a 5 month old I think this is going to be really difficult.
Make sure you have good support in RL - a lactation consultant if poss.

Good luck

Toni, I think you have started with very high expectations....2-3 days is nowhere near enough time to get your milk back after a more than 3 mth break.....but the good news is you are doing all the right things :)

Can you share a few more details of how bf had been going to 7 weeks? Did you establish a full supply? Was your baby also using formula?

It is hard work to relactate because it is so labour intensive and you often have to keep up the labour intensity for a long, long time.

I don;t think there is any decent research on this, but a rule of thumb I heard from someone experienced in this was that it takes the same length of time to re-establish milk as the length of time since you stopped bf. So someone who stopped a week ago might take a week to get things back, and someone who stopped a mth ago would take a mth.
