Stopping bf - 4months

Hi all,

My dd is nearly 4 months. She's been nearly ebf - I had a meltdown when she was 5 days and did expressing and bottles for a while, then after a few days switched back to bf and just gave 1 bottle a day formula. That has continued pretty regularly since.

However, the last few weeks (well over a month) she has not wanted the bottle at all. Screams when we try and give it to her, usually doesn't take a lot, it's really traumatic and if anything getting worse.

But now I'd like to start stopping bf.. I don't mind doing some but would like to be use bottles a few times a day for ease when were out, so dh can do some and I'm not pined to the sofa as much etc... I just feel it's time. But how can I, when she won't take bottles? I don't want to go cold turkey and stop completely so she needs to be able to feed from me and bottles, but she just won't. So frustrated and down about it. Advice??

I would try:

Different bottle - mine refused Avent at 8-10 weeks but took a Tommee Tippee closer to nature. Others have found the cheapest boots own latex teat bottle worked.

Try a sippy cup or Doidy cup

Have a friend who has little ones try for you, ie someone who has experience bottle feeding. Sometimes DH/P find it too hard as they don't yet have the "knack". You could try a childminder for a few days to maybe crack daytime feeds for you if you have no one around who could help

Just keep trying! My DS2 has/is a pain taking a bottle at 11-12pm. I am only now getting a regular 4oz into him (he's 17 weeks) after starting out at 8 weeks.

Just re read your OP, also try a different time of day for the bottle feed. Ds2 hated evening bottle, I found I had more friends around in the daytime try help me with a lunchtime one.
