Looking for some advice - first thread I've ever started as cannot seem to find what I'm looking for online.

I BF my dd for 5 months. She's now fully formula fed for various reasons. We're doing ok and I am using RTD cartons when out and about with a travel thermos to warm them. However following an incident weeks ago where I ended up stranded for 4hrs with her, waiting for breakdown service I am now wondering if I should be taking sterilised bottles, cartons and water with me every time I leave the house? I was so relieved I was BF at the time so was able to still feed her but wondered what other FF mums do?

I take what I need if I'll definitely be out during a feed time but what about emergencies or change of plans?

Thank you!!Smile

I mix fed my dd bf/ebf /ff for first 4mths and every time I left the house I took bottles, water, powder in those little pots along with me even if I was just poping round the corner as when he wanted milk she wanted it NOW!!

It gets easier but now shes 17mth and I always have a drink and something for her eat as you never know what's going to happen

In the same way that you always have nappies / wipes / change of clothes with you, just take a sterilized bottle and carton of RTD formula with you. Mine were OK with taking formula at room temp if they were really hungry. Think you can get pre-sterilized disposable bottles now too.

Thanks for replies - sound advice I think. I just miss not having to worry about it!!

Need to see if she'll take a different bottle/teat as a one off, as we had a lot of probs getting her to take a bottle to begin with...

I think most people take the cartons and don't reheat. So in emergency if you only have 2 bottles but say 4/6 cartons you can just rinse old bottle with regular water and use again. Ok so not sterilised but clean in emergency. As even then you can find bottle of Evian to rinse

I wouldn't worry about a flask. The great beauty of cartons is they can be kept at room temp.

DD1 wouldn't touch fridge cold milk, but she was quite happy with it straight out a carton.

You can get disposable bottle lines too.

You might have to experiment with different types of teat and flow rates - I remember having to enlarge the hole to increase the rate of flow every time. Everyone was always amazed at how quickly mine could empty an 8oz bottle.

Yes a carton won't be cold anyway now if in your bag all day, especially now summers approaching so it will be on the warm side

She has refused room temp but that was at a normal feed time. I'm sure if she was hungry enough she would take it. Having a look for pre-sterilised I can keep in my bag. Thanks again everyone!
