Newborn feeding constantly, is this normal?

Hi, my son was born last wed and has been feeding well with good placement and attachment.

my milk came in properly yesterday and he fed every couple of hours through the night and sleeping well in between but today he has just wanted to feed constantly for hours and hours. He latches on and feeds for a few mins then falls asleep. I have been trying to keep him awake by blowing in his face etc. When he comes off he sleeps for a couple of mins and then starts crying, rooting around and sucking hands. My DH and MIL have taken him and tried to settle him but he just screams.

Is this normal? I have read about cluster feeding but most people say it only lasts a couple of hours and normally in the evenings not all day.

Any advice please!

It's normal. Like you say your milk is just through so he's hungry ish atm. A few days an it should settle to just cluster Eve's

Yep, normal. Well it was for me and my ds's. hang on in there. Get drinks lined up, snacks, everything you need with in reach, pillows, a blanket, the TV remote etc.

It probably won't last for too long.

Congratulations on your lovely newborn!

As I sit here cuddling my 5wk old DD I can tell you there's no such thing as normal with babies! Your son op is most likely trying to establish your milk supply, so my advice at this stage would be to just let him feed. He may be sucking for comfort, but hey at less than a week old he probably needs all the comfort he can get - the world is still a scary place for him.

I hate to tell you this but it sounds totally normal. Cluster feeding can last for days and last all day, not just evenings so get comfy!

kate all this sounds normal. Ask the midwife to weigh him and this should reassure you. His poo should be yellow and soft and two to three times in 24 hrs. If you tick those boxes then all is well.

Pls don't blow on his face or try to keep him awake. This is only ever needed when babies are not feeding sufficiently well.

Hi OP it sounds like a growth spurt to me and completely normal.
