Feeding and crying CONSTANTLY

My DS is 5 weeks old and EBF. Since yesterday he has been feeding for an hour, having half hour gap then feeding for an hour. If he's not feeding he's crying to be fed. We've had no problems so far, he's gaining weight and has plenty wet and dirty nappies. His crying is becoming upsetting now and I'm exhausted from constant feeding. Any idea what's up??

Could it be thrush? It can be very painful for both if you. DD was getting like that until we started treatment

We have no symptoms of thrush Sad

Dd2 was like that at 5 wks - hv said it was a growth spurt and she'd settle in a couple if days which (after two hideous days) she did.

it's a growth spurt and he's just doing his job to get your milk up. The more he feeds the more your boobs get the message that they need to make more milk.

I totally understand, but it passes in days I promise. BF was a pain in the arse until 16 weeks for me but it really gets easier.

You need the tv remote and a constant supply of Brew and Cake
Repeat 'this too shall pass' and until it does, remain topless on the sofa. :)

Can you feed laying down and sleep when he sleeps?

gamerchick · 10/04/2014 23:14

Yes can you do a babymoon and just go to bed with the baby? Really, you should be comfortable, have somebody feed and water you and pass you the remote at this stage of nursing.

I'm glad to hear its normal! That's how I felt but keep getting family members giving me 'advice'.
'Give him a bottle/dummy/formula.'
'Your obviously not making enough milk '

And the like...argh!

I like the idea of a babymoon! Will see how it goes over the next day or so..

Well its right.. He needs more so he's doing his job and teaching your boobs he needs more. It's all normal and will pass.. ironically it sounds as if it's going well. It really does get easier.

Thanks guys. I think other peoples questioning and interfering had me questioning myself and my own instincts. Have to not let other people in my head Confused
