Breast feeding and expressing help

I need some advice about expressing and bf. My baby is three weeks old. I was going to wait to express until next weekend but after last night where he wanted to feed constantly and wouldn't settle in the Moses basket I am exhausted and unsure what to do. I'm wondering if I should build up some supplies?

  1. He doesn't always latch the best if I express and give him a bottle is this going to make it even worse?
  2. When should I express and how often?
  3. I'm already finding when he's coming to a feed I am uncomfortably engorged will this become worse?
  4. If I did give him a bottle in the night would I have to express at the same time?

Thanks for any answers

I'd work on getting bf sorted before worrying about expressing. It's a faff and I can't imagine trying to do it while feeding a hungry newborn.

Cluster feeding (feeding for ages and ages in the evenings) is completely normal in a baby of 3 weeks old. It's worse around growth spurts too. They do this to build up your supply, and expressing will potentially mess with the very clever supply-and-demand regulation that happens with feeding on demand (as exhausting as it can be).
