Milk supply dropped?

My ds2 will be 3 weeks tomorrow and is in the neonatal unit. He is exclusively fed breast milk but through a gastric feeding tube. I have had a really good supply and been able to freeze extra milk. But today when I express I'm only getting half the normal amount! I'm still expressing lots during the day and night using a hospital pump. The only thing I can think that might of effected it is the fact that I have been very stressed/upset and not eating my normal amount of food in the last 24 hours. Anyone have any tips or ideas of how I can improve my supply again?

Hi and congratulations on your new baby . Sounds like you are doing an amazing job expressing breast milk for him.

It's not uncommon to have a day where you get a low volume so hopefully things will be back to normal tomorrow. Stress can affect the let down of your milk however so that's something to consider. Unless you are completely starving yourself, that won't affect how much you can express, but of course it's important to look after yourself.

Some mums find that they can increase volumes by hand expressing for a little while after using the pump-might be worth a try?

Can you listen to something relaxing whilst pumping and look at photos of your baby( if you can't see him in person). This has been shown to increase volumes of milk.
