When to stop sterilising bottles?

Was just curious to see when people stopped sterilising there baby's bottles?

The standard time is 12 months

You need to steralise the bottles as long as you are giving formula in them.

Although you'll see your baby chewing on the buggy wheels and think 'why am I bothering', you really must. The germs on a buggy wheel are fairly benign compared to the bugs that grow in formula. Formula is the perfect medium for growing bacteria (unlike a buggy wheel), and so bugs will flourish in the books and crannies round the lid/at the bottom/in the teat etc.

Please keep sterilising as long as you're using formula. If you switch to just water from a bottle then it becomes less important, but while it's formula you really should keep sterilising.

Until I stopped formula, ie when I used up the last box, about 13 months with both of mine.

When you stop using powdered formula.

I think at 6 months I started just washing them in the dishwasher and letting them dry. I was told that was fine, that they were sterilised.

My DD was never once sick.

As somersethouse said, the dishwasher reaches a high enough temperature to sterilise. But if you wash up by hand, ten you need to sterilise seperately.
