What gap should I leave?
Should I pump and chuck as it will be in my system or will it come out after the 6/8 hours?

Thanks.
I've had wisdom teeth removal and there quite sore...
I mean the one you can get over the counter.

The advice here (non UK) is not to take it at all while BF. As an aside I now know I must be an ultra metaboliser because codeine does very fun strange things to me.

Hic is right. Tbh the risk as a one off is not there, the risk that your child couldn't tolerate the drug infinitesimal bit still not worth it if regularly consuming. An older child, a one off would be ok.

I was taking it in 2012 during pregnancy and the 4 hour thing was what I was advised then , will update muself

Those who had it after birth, lact med says it's v limited in colostrum so not as bad then as when your milk comes in

"Hi Gimme , it's 1000mg every 4 hours. Plus I can take ibuprofen inbetween if needed."

1000mg?? I'm sorry but that would be a lethal dose. 30mg is a high dose.

Codeine - which is in cocodamol - is always metabolised into morphine. It's the first step in the breakdown process by the body. The usual half life of codeine is around 3 hours, which means from peak plasma concentraions around an hour after ingestion, 50% will remain at three hours, then 25% of original concentratoin at 6 hours.
Codeine is not reccommended for breastfeeding women, individuals vary in their resopnse to codeine and concentrations in breastmilk can exceed safe levels.

Hi atthestroke I'm talking paracetamol here, not codeine!

Is definitely 1000mg, I checked the packet before I typed. 2 x 500mg tablets, every 4 hours (well, every 4-6, but I'm still in a lot of pain today) Plus ibuprofen with meals.

Not lethal, I'm still walking! And mumsnetting.... and breastfeeding :-)

atthestrokeoftwelve · 23/03/2014 10:21

sorry- misunderstood?

TimeIsAnIllusion · 23/03/2014 10:23

Took it around the clock while bf ds4 and also had morphine shots post surgery as allergic to aspirin/ibuprofen. Didn't get any side effects and no warnings from medical staff either. This was 2008.
It was interesting hearing staff discuss what on earth could they give me for pain relief reading my notes whilst sewing me up post delivery!!! ShockConfused

Actually it might have been Dihydrocodeine I was on... It's hard to remember...Wink
