dropping the bedtime feed

I know there are some other posts about this but didn't want to hijack them with my particular situation. Dd is 17 months and has only been having a 1 breasted bed time feed for a couple of months. The thing is, I don't seem to be able to find a way to drop this feed. She gets really upset and almost desperate for her cuddle with me. She doesn't go for cuddles ordinarily. I've tried offering a bottle, a cup, a book, etc. but to no avail. Should I just go cold turkey now and put her down anyway? She's usually crying and I don't like to do that unless I have to.

Can't you arrange to go out for a couple of evenings and get someone else to put her to bed. I found with ds that if I wasnt there he got to sleep fine with dh.

Yes, I guess I could try that. Do you think that would work long term though? Wouldn't she still want a feed from me when I'm back on the scene?

I think once she knows she can do it without you you can then be around but still let someone else to the putting to bed nit. I was really worried about ds going to nursery and me going out as I didnt think he'd survive without feeding but he was absolutley fine. I carried on longer with him but I think this way would have worked. At nursery he had no problems napping etc .

Maybe a bit young but what about bribery?

I'm not worried about her going to sleep without me as she does fine in the day when I'm at work, and dp sometimes puts her to bed in the day too. It's just that she's so habituated to her bedtime breast feed and so attached to it, I don't know what to offer as an alternative. She is too young for bribery just yet I think.

With my two I changed the bedtime routine. Instead of story downstairs then feed and bed, I did story upstairs and into bed. Neither of them even really noticed. Ds was 13 months, and dd was coming up 2.
Could you do something like this?

I've been trying to look at a book with her which is what I usually do before daytime sleeps but she gets v. upset and squirms around on my knee pointing at my breast and trying to lift up my top! Then she usually chucks the book on the floor in frustration that I'm not getting her what she wants!
