I can't attend any of the rallies but have posted my views I support of Emily Slough.

Anyone care to post on the bbc 'thread' just to outweigh those awful, ignorant and downright mysoginist views?

It is a disgusting attitude isn't it?

It is as appropriate for a baby to feed in public as it is for anyone else to eat a sandwich or drink a cup of coffee.

Of course urinating in public is not acceptable - nor is it comparable to a baby having lunch, whether that lunch be from a bottle or a breast.

I know Santas, these views are utterly depressing.

If we really think bf is like urinating then mothers should go to the toilet in their own homes to do it. I mean you wouldn't piss on your sofa would you?

I wonder if people who make the urination equals bf comments think they're being original? The same idiotic idea is expressed every time the issue is discussed.

Emily Slough has handled this admirably. Sadly, I do think that whenever people publicly express disgust at bf mothers (as has happened a lot over the last few days following the 'tramp' spectacle, there are some new mums who are left feeling that bf is too much of a hassle and ultimately don't bf or bf for a shorter time.

I have to say that having bf two dc (still bf #2) I am now more aware of some weirdos' people's bizarre objections on the issue and actually feel more self-conscious as a result and less comfortable feeding we out and about than when I had my first dc years ago.

I'm also bf DC2 and more aware of negative views on it. But I still do it in public with a "fuck 'em" attitude. You know why? Because those people are wrong. And in the minority.

I'm mixed race and there are a minority of people who are offended by my very existence. But I still walk around. In all my beige hued fabulousness.

I feel the same way about breastfeeding. It's natural and normal and all the freaks who are "offended" can fuck the fuck off.

I get comment rage a lot. I end up having to force myself to close the site and do something else. People who have these horrible views won't be interested in your answer anyway. And at best they are trolls looking for a fight so don't give rise to them :)

Honestly, I think breastfeeding reminds people that we are mammals andthat we have biological reason to feed our young, the milk our bodies creates automatically in response to birth.

No matter how a baby is actually fed birth will trigger milk production in all but the rarest cases. (Though I understand getting the milk into the baby is far from easy or even possible for some mothers)

That can upset some people who prefer to ignore such obvious things.

I think it is the idea that a baby is latched onto the mans sexual play toy is a close second objection. Amazing that still some people think a mans desires come/ before a babies needs, but there are plenty people out there who seem to think this way.

Wonder how many of these same people who have issues with our basic biology, drink 'might as well be urine' breast milk from a cow in their cups of tea ?

My stock response when people start waffling on about what breastfeeding is like....is to say that' breastfeeding is not LIKE anything, it IS how a baby eat.'

I agree these views are very depressing.
I'm EBF my first child, DD 5 months. She is a greedy guzzler and I can't cope with being housebound so have done a lot of feeding in public, and not had a single negative experience, yet. However I'm in London where it might be more the norm to feed on a bus, tube, bench, museum, and obv cafes etc.
A few friends have 'helpfully' tried to help me cover up when I'm feeding, I know it's done with love and to protect my modesty, but I very politely ask them not to. The best analogy I can think of is one I used to a gay male friend who was desperate to cover me up so some beery blokes wouldn't stare at my breasts (I have no idea if they were/would, I was focused on my baby). Like being gay, breastfeeding is natural and there's nothing wrong with it. Whilst I wouldn't shove it in anyone's face, there's nothing wrong with it and I'm not going to hide it. If someone wants to stare, or has a problem with me doing it, that's their problem. I will carry on regardless because I know I'm in the right.
