Best bottles to buy

Hiya everyone, we've got twins on the way due in September/October and are currently buying stuff in preparation for the big day. As these are our first kids I was wondering if anyone could give us pros and cons of the different brands and types of bottles they've bought and used.

My wife's hoping to breastfeed but as there are 2 of them and obviously it's not always possible we thought that we'd need to get some bottles in to possibly feed through expressing milk. We've seen that some companies make reduced Colic bottles too, so which do you guys think are the best. Any advice would be great as we've not found much written about this and the proof's in the pudding and I know you experienced mums out there are the best ones to ask.

My dd loves the Mam ultra vent bottles, great for proventing colic. Also the new tommee tippee close to nature bottles.

Congratulations,

As a maternity nanny i like the anti colic bottles by Dr Browns or Tommee Tippee Health Check these allow air into the bottle via a straw so keeping the milk from getting frothy.Tho they take a little longer to clean and construct they are worth while. With these bottles teats like MAM ULTIvent and TT Nuby can be substituted for the own brand.

Tommee Tippee Nuby bottles and teats allow air in, but it passes thru the milk so can still contribute to wind.

I'm not a fan of Avent as i have had many babies who couldn't get on with the teats, tho other teats like MAM ULTIvent and TT nuby can be used they can also collapse.

With planning, feeding the babies together from the breast is a reality tho it takes practice and patience.

I only introduced a bottle at about 6 months so I can't offer any advice for tiny babies but my DD took to the MAM teats straight away. Tried the Avent ones but she refused them, put a MAM one on she downed the whole bottle! I think they are supposed to be shwped like a breastfeeding nipple so that might help if you are planning to mix feed.

My son is fine with the Avent teats and bottles- and i mix mostly breastfeeding with one or two formula feeds a day. I don't think he cares how he gets his milk though, as long as he gets it!

kayzed, teat looks groovy, seems available in Australia but they will ship.

Why this teat?

The MAM ULTIvent teat is soft silicone and has a flatten nipple shape.

The MAM ULTIvent bottles are fiddly and are prone to leaking but do let the air in without it entering the milk, just very chunky.

i bought the mothercare microwave bottled for ease of sterilising. With the second one didnt bother about steriliser system just these bottles. teats didnt really think to hard about them. Ds2 seems to find the teats that went with the bottles fine.

i think it depends really ds1 got on well with avent but ds2 and dd prefer the tommie tippie which is very good.
out of the two i preferred using the avent but im not sure why, i just thought they were nice! avent have anticolic teats i think while with mam the bottles are anticolic... is that the right way round? that might be why some babies dont like the teats on them?

we used a mixture of Avent and Dr Brown bottles. Avent cheap and good. Dr brown expensive and good. Midwife did reccomend Dr Brown but couldn't really tell the difference. She was bottle fed from the start and easy to wind so that helped.

I found the MAM ULTIvent bottles great, no wind to speak of, just the usual. Can be a little awkward to put together but you get the hang of it after a while. Trial and error really, all babies are different, or is it awkward!

Racers, Nuk was all my DD would use as well - latex rather than silicone teats.Although they aren't very widely available.

We tried lots of different bottles. Fortunately now she is a bit older and less fussy, we are making use of all the other ones - Avent, Dr Brown, Tommee Tippee

My son never got on with Avent. We also tried a bottle that was meant to be in the shape of a breast, but had little luck with that too. Eventually we tried NUK latex teats and had success. He then progressed to the silicone ones. You can get them from Boots, but they only seem to have newborn size. To buy for older babies you can get them from baby-supplies.co.uk which NUK recommends. it looks like when all else fails NUK is the answer - my nieces and nephews were the same! I was starting to think it was a family thing. They are more popular in Ireland but some independent pharmacies also do them. We got some on-line too but can't remember the address. DD is the only NUK baby in her nursery - means her bottles don't get mixed up with all the other avents.

Boots stock NUK as do many little chemists.

They do a wide necked bottle or a standard neck with latex and silicone teats to match.

Latex is softer but degrades and needs changing regularly.

Silicone is very durable.

Kayzed, would love to know if they do fit, i have a range of bottles and teats and so far NUK, TT Closer to Nature and Chicco are the only ones that are teat/bottle brand specific.

Started my DS on the Tommy Tippee Closer to Nature bottles (problems getting breastfeeding established initially so hoping to express until we got BF established). These were OK but then started getting really bad colic so loads of people recommended Dr Browns. Bought these and also used Colief drops, hardly any colic since (approx 4 weeks ago).
NB. use half dose of Colief as full dose caused upset tummy!!

DR Browns all the way - they have been FAB. No colic/wind issues at all.

Becky has been on them from 3 weeks old, after being nightmare baby from birth with wind and these are fantastic!

I have 6 I no longer use that I would consider selling if you decide you want them .
