Breastfeeding lying down

Hiya,
I have started feeding my lo lying down this week in the night as have had a sore back and this has helped but have a few questions...

DS is 16 weeks he used to feed for roughly 15-20 minutes when he woke in the night but if I put him on lying down I am dozing off and waking up over an hour and a half later and he is still munching away! Is this normal? Why is he eating more?!
Also I am putting him on his side to latch on but then we are both falling asleep and he is then sleeping on his side which is obviously not recommended. What do other mums do about this? Thanks!

I used to do exactly what you are doing. It worked for us.

He might be more nursing than actual feeding, or "using you as a dummy " as people say.
It's great feeding lying down, Grin

You're both comfier so aren't registering that he's barely taking any milk as he doesn't want to move. And side-sleeping isn't recommended due to the risk of flopping forwards: unlikely when you're in the way.
