when to stop bf if you are pg again ?

Have just found out I am pg again, a bit unexpectedly as ds3 is only just 7 months.
Not sure how far I am yet, but want to keep bfeeding until he is at least a year.
Have heard that some people don't stop in between babies, but just wondering if the new baby still gets colostrum that way?
Also, as the milk adapts to suit the baby's needs at the time can you go from feeding a 1 year old to a newborn just like that?
Any thoughts appreciated.

Don't stop.

I didn't.

DS1 self-weaned when I was nearly 5m pg - was very easy and natural and lovely process.

New baby gets colostrum and tandem feeding can help with supply and jealousy issues.

Congrats on your pg!

Still feeding here at 37 1/2 weeks. It was a bit rough at times but we are both v happy that she is still feeding.

Adventures in Tandem Nursing is a great book to answer all your questions.

Congrats!

good point. Im not in this situation but if your BFing will the new baby get colostrum?

nuckingfutjob · 10/08/2006 11:52

Yes, colostrum is made for the new baby. I made colostrum one side and milk the other when I was feeding DS1!

Your body is amazing. Trust it to do the business.

sorry but that bloody amazing! i know nothing about breastfeeding, but the fact that you can make milk suitable for a newborn and a 1 year old, is, erm, amazing!
learn something new everyday

Still bfing my 14m ds at 4m pg. No problems, but I think ds is starting to self-wean as his feeds are getting shorter and shorter . I remember a thread ages ago about tandem feeding - it sounded really lovely, thhough I don't think ds will carry on that long. ds did go through a bitey phase a month or so ago, I didn't know if it was my milk tasting different, or teething or what, but someone else had a thread saying the exact same thing, so it may be a pattern. However, he got over it and got back to normal. I hope that makes some sense! And congrats!

I'm currently 12wks and my DS is a year. He started biting at the beginning of feeds a few weeks ago. Only thing anyone can think of is the pregnancy thing. So I feel we have had to stop. Anyway, I was just going to say that I was told that two thirds of babies will self wean when mum is pregnant. So you may not have to make any decisions - your DS might make the decision for you. If he doesn't self wean, then he will be old enough to move over to cows milk if you feel that you don't want to tandem feed him and another baby.

I must say that I always fancied tandem feeding though
