Desperate for a break

Tonight my 2.5 week old has been feeding constantly since 12 am. When I remove her from he breast she cries inconsolably. Am so desperate for a break! My nipples are feeling sore and I am in desperate need of some sleep

It's so hard and you sound like you're doing amazingly.

In true Mumsnet spirit 'this too shall pass'. The sleep deprivation is a killer so you have my full sympathy. Hope you manage to get some sleep during the day today.

I hope so. This is as bad the day 2 which has been my worst day. She is acting like she is starving but has been feeding actively for almost 4 hrs now.

I think there's a growth spurt about this time. I'm currently in the middle of the 12 week one and I'm on my knees. It will get better.

I just gave her to DP so I could get a half hour nap. Feeling marginally better but I know this would start him on the merits of introducing formula again. He means well but can't understand why I just dnt give her formula as well as breast feed.

I felt the same a few days ago with my lo.

I think it is a combination of a growth spurt and them establishing your milk supply. I have come to learn they try at different times to establish your milk supply as they grow! Your body and hormones do this better at night hence the night milking sessions!!

I have good and bad days! have you tried the laying down position? I love it as I can dose whilst he feeds!!

As for DHs ff argument, tell him you spent 9mths creating this beauty as you will nurture her how you wish! If its a case of him wanting to be involved, he could get you snacks and drinks or you could express which is my plan in the next week or so!

Don't let DH talk you into formula if you want to EBF. There will only be a few hard nights and they will be over before you know it. It sounds like your LO was building your supply up last night ready for today and tonight.

Thanks for the encouragement. The feeding frenzy has started again. DP is trying to be helpful as it gets really hard at times and I am having very little sleep nowadays

Oh no poor you. I was hoping it would just be one night for you. Isn't it annoying how they want to feed more at night?

I'm up feeding my 9 month DD hopefully for the only time tonight as I'm trying my best to get her to sleep through the night. She has other ideas though! It's so frustrating as my older two DC were both sleeping thru by this age.

hi princessPotsie, still up with her. my breasts have gone crazy. i am producing so much milk now, the flow is too fast for DD and its frustrating her alot. its coming as a real fast jet. i think its because of this constant feeding frenzy. i am trying to give her a pacifier so i can have a break but she dsnt accept it. i am wondering if i should express some before feeding her but am afraid to make the oversupply issue even worse.

Oh no. I'm not sure what you should do for the best there. Could you phone a breast feeding advice line? Or start a new thread on here as there are loads of experts that will be able to help you. My older two DC had dummies and it did take a while to persuade them to take them. Lots of holding them in until they got the hang of sucking them. I know that they're not recommended at first when breast feeding but it sounds as though you have a really sucky baby.

You could hand express just enough to soften the breast slightly - that should make it a little easier for your dd. That sometimes helped if my DS went longer than usual between feeds and I got a bit engorged.

Managed to get 4 hours sleep in the day today. Am feeling quite refreshed. Thank you for the tips. I have been hand expressing slightly and catching the very fast flow in a muslin cloth. She is still finding it frustrating but was weighed today and has gained quite a bit of weight and also having 7 wet nappies and 3-4 dirty nappies a day so I feel reassured that she seems to be getting food.

Glad you had a rest. It's amazing how good you can feel after 4 hours sleep isn't it?
