13 week old not feeding much

DS is 13 weeks old and i breast fed.

He is a good, above average weight.

Has always fed little and often but over last few days this has reduced signigicantly. He feeds for such a short amount of time, this evening it was 3 or 4 mins. He seems happy in himself and is sleeping ok and lots of wet and poo nappies but i'm just a bit concerned as he really cant be getting that much from me.

Any advice?
TIA X

my dd is 11 weeks. she's the same. some days she feeds constantly, sometimes she barely has more than one main feed. as long as over an average things are steady then i shouldn't worry about it. you said he's doing plenty wet nappies etc anyway.

i found that as ds is 16 weeks, his feeds got shorter the better he got at bfing. feeds are anything from 5-15 min evey 1-2 hours.

have you looked at kellymom.com? i have found that site a million times more helpful than any health visitor. health visitors aren't breast feeding experts.

I think some babies just feed quicker than others, and some can get all they need in a few minutes, while others take much longer. I guess it may also depend on your supply - do you find letdown quite powerful, and produce quite a lot quite quickly? I used to find that in the morning when my breasts were full, DS would get lots in about 5-10 mins, while in the evening, when supply was lower, he'd feed for more like 45 mins to an hour.

He may also have been going through a growth spurt which has just ended, so he's needing a bit less. If there are lots of poos and wees, and he continues to put on weight, then I wouldn't worry.

How long is he going between feeds?
Sometimes we go through stages of this and I feed DS off the same breast over say 3 hours so he eats little and often but her is getting all the milk out then I swop breasts if that makes any sense at all.

Also remember that just like adults they don't always take in the same amount of food, he will drink if his hungry, unless he is coming down with something, but our bodies are very sofisticated and I wouldn't worry, unless there is a drastic weight loss...my son could go through about 5 days drinking little and then all of a sudden he would make up for it by drinking 32 oz a day for a week! They also fight of little virusses that doesn't necessarily make them sick, just not very hungry.
