How do I get ds to like formula?

Ds is 5 months and has been exclusively breastfed. Now I want to start leaving him with other people occasionally. He will take ebm from a bottle but not formula. Trouble is I can't express enough to make using ebm practical - took me a whole week to build up enough to leave him with dh for an afternoon! Any tips on how to get him used to formula? Have tried both the first milks and the SMA white type.

My dd would only take Aptimil first milk after i stopped feeding her, the key was for me to stay out the room and dp would give her the bottle and then half way through i would come in and sit next to them, we done this most evenings after dp came in from work, then one morning she took the bottle of formula from me, then i knew she would be ok to leave with my MIL etc

Can you express enough to mix? What type of pump are you using? Do you do breast compression when you express?

Have the Avent Isis pump, and yes, I do breast compression. I can get out about 2.5 oz max at a time. I tried mixing ebm and formula, and getting dh to give the bottle. A friend has also just suggested Aptimil as the most bm-like (have tried Cow & Gate and SMA) so will get a mini carton of that to try.

Have you tried Cow and Gate? It's sweeter than SMA and tastes a bit nicer. I tasted SMA and it's like cardboard!

Try feeding and expressing at the same time - takes a bit of juggling but you may get more that way.
