I'm sure someone will be along who is more knowledgeable than me, but my first thought was that if he is that ready for it, then you gotta feed him really! With babies I think let water flow downhill iykwim; why fight it really, you'll only make yourselves miserable...I guess that you are sure he really is hungry and not tired? Sorry to state the obvious, I'm sure that you know he's hungry.

If he is taking 7-8oz then he must need it!?

I'm sure others will have good ideas and advice though - I'm not an expert, only have one child!

Well, unless it is different with bottle feeding (can't see why), could be just a growth spurt. I b/fed both mine but they were extra hungry around that time.
If he seems fine otherwise, then go with the flow and he'll probably ease up in a few days. But if you are concerned then get him checked over.
Good luck.

i thought about it being a growth spurt but its been like this for ages and doesnt seem to be stopping. i'm also bit worried coz although he is taking all that milk he is only doing 1 poo a day.
shall i just feed whenever he demands and not think about how long it was since his last 1?

What do you mean by ages? Have you spoken to your HV about it? Is he gaining weight ok? How many night feeds is he having?
If you are worrying about it, then get him checked for peace of mind. He doesn't need a worried mum, and I'm sure you have enough to contend with at the moment, and not nearly enough sleep to go on.

my 10 week olkd goes every three hours but she takes 8 - 9 oz. she's hardly ever sick and only does one pooh per day too. She's keeping at ther 75th centile. My DS used to go every 11/2 - 2 hours and took 9 oz of the hungry baby milk. I was worried he'd be obese but at 4.5 he's fit and heathly is always running around and is no where near being over weight let alone obese. In the end I fed him when he seemed to need it cos I felt cruel witholding it. If you think some adults eat more than other so I suppose some babies are more hungry than others???? They have both slept through since 7 weeks so I assume they were just filling up during the day and catching up on rest at night. Does your LO sleep too?

gem1984 · 09/08/2006 11:08

no he desnt sleep through. he has 2 night feeds. hes pttin weight on he is 12.5lb......

by ages i mean 6 weeks.... cd it be a growth spurt then?

my ds2 needed feeding every 2 hours or he would scream the house down. He was breastfed whic led me to belive my milk wasn't good enough etc etc

Babies have a growth spurt at 6-8 weeks in which they feed more, it could be that. the fact that he is readily taking 8oz, to me, shows he really is hungry. Have u tried offering him a dummy rather than feeding him? he may need comfort rather than food and may just have the milk because its there (IYSWIM)

My ds2 wouldn't have a dummy and i had to feed him every 2 hours day and night, it did settle after a while

gem1984 · 09/08/2006 11:16

Yes he has a dummy but just spits it out. He only really likes his dummy when he is tired.
Whats (IYSWIM) and ds2 mean?

OP posts:
MerlinsBeard · 09/08/2006 11:17

IYSWIM = if you see what i mean
DS2 = dear son 2 (ie my secoind son)

theres an acronym list at the top of that page

gem1984 · 09/08/2006 11:20

ok cheers.
So what do you think then. Is it normal and should i just keep on feeding on demand?

gothicmama · 09/08/2006 11:23

sounds like growth spurt to me ds has just done similar I would demand feed and speak to hv if worried or just to check

Marne · 09/08/2006 11:26

Very normal, my dd (now 5 months) fed evry 1 1/2 - 2 hours at that age, she is a bottle fed baby, i put her onto hungry baby formula but it did'nt make her any less hgungry, she still feeds evry 3-4 hours now and i have started to wean her as adviced by my health visitor. I do offer her water in the hot weather as she does get thirsty, the health visitor also told me i could water down one of her feeds each day.

gem1984 · 09/08/2006 11:36

ok thanks every 1. I feel much better about it now. was just really worried i might be overfeeding him and making him ill. i'll chek out those things, thanks.
