I bought some of those little tubs that you put formula powder in as individual servings (tommee tippee ones). The instructions say to fill the bottle with boiled and cooled water then add the formula from the pot when you need a feed and feed it to the baby.

I thought formula had to be added to hot water though? Have I bought something completely useless?

not useless but do follow the instructions on the drum of powdered infant formula for safe prep

you could put hot water in the bottle and put it in an insulated bottle holder to keep it hot until you need it

Kind of. Some people are happy to prepare milk in different ways to the prescribed one. If you're happy making bottles up at a different temperature then these are useful.

Personally, I used to make it at 70 degrees, cool rapidly and store at the back of the fridge. I had a little thermal sleeve that is use to keep the bottle cold if I was popping out. If I was going out for longer I used cartons.

Most of my friends made up bottles with cooled, boiled water as they wouldn't be told the point of boiling the water was to kill bugs in the milk powder, not the water.

I could use an insulated bottle bag but I would have no way of knowing if it was hot enough and no way of cooling it quickly if I was out.

I guess it would be useful for taking formula with me if I was visiting someone, then I could boil water and cool the bottle at their house. Other than that I will stick to cartons when out.

We take a dispenser, 2 flasks and a bottle. The flasks contain water at 70 degrees and cooled boiled water. We put 1/3 of the hot water in the bottle, mix the powder in, then use the cold flask and put 2/3 of the water in.

It's a bit of a faff and cartons would be easier but he is on comfort formula, and they don't do cartons of that, but it does mean his milk is safe.

We also use the dispensers at home. Flasks always ready and it means the powder goes straight in from there rather than the formula scoop getting damp and the powder sticking to it.

Another bonus is you can measure them out before a feed saving time when you are making bottles up, and also save wasting milk if you are a numpty like me and forget how many scoops you have added to the water... Have to say though my favourite one is the Bibi one, followed by the Mam one. I could never get the tops to stay on properly on the TT ones...

follow prep instructions on the pack HOWEVER i always washed and sterilised all the bottles at night. boiled the kettle and filled the bottles to the level i needed. filled my MAM dispenser with the correct amount of
scoops for the water level (for example 4scoops to 120ml) and just allowed those to cool in the kitchen. it mixes fine with cold water but of course you'd need to warm it somewhat before feeding anyway.
if you put boiling water in a sterilised bottle its sterile for 24 hours. so much more simple than doing each bottle from scratch every time your babies desperate and crying!
