8mth old fighting not feeding

Ds seems to be more interested in pushing his feet against the chair I am sitting on when I am b/feeding him. He also gets quite easily distracted and sucks then stops and looks at me in a bored way.
The other day I was eating an apple and he stopped completely and lunged after the apple.
I feed him before meals and at night so about 4 or sometimes 5 times a day. I had hoped to feed him until he could go straight to a cup of cows milk at a year, but what used to be a quiet peaceful time is turning into a wriggling/flexing match. He turns his head with my nipple in his mouth. The best time he feeds is first thing in the morning.
I asked hv about it and also feel as if I have a blocked duct(I know it helps to feed as much as poss. anyone got a spare baby?) Tbh her advice was a bit contractdictory ie. feed him after food or maybe before, maybe I haven't got enough milk. Any advice ? Is this a boy thing dd wasn't like this.

You have enough milk for sure. HE probably is more interested in pushing his feet against the chair or looking at anything else going on but that doesnt mean bf needs to stop. Just carry on as you are if I were you.
I have little faith in hvs btw but it is not a case of not enough milk.
Follow what your ds wants iyswim.

My dd does this too, he even has a great habit of pulling up my shirt completely and then stopping feeding. He turns his head to the other side and flings his other arm around. If he can catch anyboy's eye whilst doing this, then he is well pleased. This means that feeding in public has even more potential for the visible nipple/whole boob scenario we all dread!
I think it is an age thing, he is now 6 months and doesn't seem to want to feed much at all. He is still growing and well, so I suppose this is what happens. He is only on one or two meals a day at the moment, I started him on food at 5 1/2 months, and he has had a week of not eating food due to a nasty cold.
I wouldn't worry too much, I'm sure he is getting all he needs from you, or he wouldn't be messing around!

Thanks for your replies I would like to carry on b/feeding but his behaviour makes me wonder if he would be exactly the same with a bottle.

COlette, from memory my dd did the same sort of 'stunt' at a similar age. I think she had gone down to 3 or 4 feeds a day by this point and dropped to just morning and evening soon after.

I have also experienced the head turning with nipple in mouth thing with dd and ds and it's not pleasant but seems quite normal, they are just more curious the older they get.

I think that you are probably right that he could be just the same with a bottle (except the nipple, of course!). Good luck.

Hurray,its not just my boy then!! My little delight is 6 months old now and he like to stop sucking every couple of minutes to have a shout, a look around ,a pull at my shirt or best of all a bite of my nipple followed by an attack of the giggles!!!
His quietest, most peaceful feed is the one first thing in the morning too.I think it's their age as much as a gender thing.
I also can't eat anything in front of him now without him going completely bananas wanting some;a trick which is growing a little wearing!!

colette, my 6 mth old is completely bottlefed, but he has v recently started being the same. feeds for a bit but ANYTHING will distract him - cranes his head around to see what he is missing behind him, actually taps his feet in boredom while he chews on the teat, then spits it out with his toungue and tries to sit up.... I just think he is very curious and less interested in milk than he once was. He also knows that after milk comes solids which he is very interested in. So anyway, it is nothing to do with how much milk you have I don't think ... at least it isn't with my ds where both he and I can see it is a full 8oz bottle!
