12 week old DS - ff has hardly fed at all today..... We started the day at 6am and the only bottle he has taken any volume from was at lunch time today.....

He is my first so have no idea if this is normal or not - any advice/similar experiences would be great.

Thanks

Roughly how much has he had and how much does he normally take?

Is he having wet and dirty nappies this afternoon?

Does there seem to be anything else wrong - screaming, sleepy etc?

Purple those were the questions I was also going to ask!
So instead this can be used as a bump for OP to see replies.

We've had a couple of poos and plenty of wet nappies....

I do 180ml bottles which he will drain one or twice a day (he did this lunch time) but nothing this morning of any volume and nothing really since he got up from his nap at 4pm.... He has just drunk 40 ish mls..... Will persevere until bed time at 7pm.

I've just moved up to medium flow teats after he was struggling on the slow flow ones (Tommee tippee) and when he goes for it can do 180mls in about 15/20 mins.

Her is ok in his self - 5.30-7.30pm is his 'witching hour' but he is ok no colic or wind just not hungry! Just taken his temp and it's ok....

Stumped.... Growth spurt? Teething?

Just don't know what to do......

Could just be the change in teat size I'd look at the amounts over the whole day as it could also be that he is changing to a four hourly feed pattern so just not quite ready when you are offering iykwim.
Also have you tried feeding in a quite room with no distractions - as he could have just realised he can see things he couldn't before (improved eyesight).

Personally if he seems well with wet diapers I'd keep an eye on it and talk to your hv (phone) it it continues orthe wet diapers slow down over the next 24hrs.

Thanks Purple I'll keep an eye on him and see how he is tomorrow. The HV clinic is on Wed and I was going to take him to get weighed so I'll talk to a HV then.

He went off ok at 7pm so we'll see how he goes this evening.

When I changed up to size two I continued with size one for the night feeds so he wasn't startled by the fast flow while half asleep for a few days - I'd prob have both available for your night bottles / early morning to see which he wants.

Slongette · 03/02/2014 20:33

Good idea.... Going to make my night bottles now so will do both sizes.

He is less refluxy and colicky with the medium flow teats but when he feeds at night he is very chilled and generally still half a sleep so should not pull so hard on the teat!

I'm prepared for a sleep deprived night..... You wait I bet he'll go through tonight! He's been waking at 01.30/02.00 for a bottle since last Wednesday!

He sounds like lovely sleeper - just fot through the night at 5 month's here and about to go up to size 3 teats so will see what that brings.

Mines the same with the over sucking and getting fussy as well.

Slongette · 03/02/2014 21:07

I think that's half my problem.... He's been relatively easy to date so when he deviates from his normal routine I panic!

He is still asleep so hopefully he'll go through until 10/10.30 so I can get his dream feed in...

Good luck with the next size up teat. I do feel I deprived DS because I failed to realise he needed to move on teat wise..... I'm desperate to see what he weighs.. He was 11lb 3oz on 6 Jan and had to go to hospital the weekend before last for IV antibiotics where he only weighed 11lb 9oz. That was the weekend I had the great teat realisation so hopefully he'll have been putting on good weight.
