Contraception while breastfeeding

Hello,

I'm hoping for some advice. I have my 6-week check next week and need to sort out contraception. I'm not in the UK, and not sure what is available where I am, but I'd be interested to hear what people are using while they breastfeed. After DD1 was born my obgyn put me on the mini pill, but I stopped using it after a few months as I was rubbish at remembering to take it on time. Is anyone using anything different? To be honest, the chances of me and DH actually having enough energy to DTD is pretty low, but it's best to prepared!!

Thanks all.

I think you have to find what suits you (e.g. I personally do not want to take hormones, but that may be different for you - if you are bad at remembering pills perhaps an implant?), but the main thing to remember is that bf is only anything anywhere near a reliable contraceptive when done exclusively, including regularly at night, and that even then it may not suppress ovulation (I exclusively bf my first dc incl several times at night and my periods were back at 6 months). So I suppose I just want to reinforce/encourage you in getting something else sorted out!

I used diaphragm and condoms- it may be too early to be fitted with a diaphragm atm as your body will still be changing post birth.
I didn't want to take hormones while I was breastfeeding.

cerazette is a mini-pill suitable for breastfeeding & it has a 12 hour window rather than the 3 hours fir other mini pills...

mini pill, mirena coil, copper coil, implant, depo injection - think these are all suitable for breastfeeding mothers
