Wearing a bra at night

As long as I BF will I need to wear a bra (to keep breast pads in) at night? It's so uncomfortable!

Not in my experience no. I stopped needing them at night at about the time I stopped needing them in the day. Ocassionally get damp patches on my night clothes (eg if DD is feeding less than usual one night) but they are small and not uncomfortable.

Before that point I wore the crop-top style 'sleep nursing bras' or whatever they're called from Mothercare.

How long have you been bfing? I found that once my supply settled down, around 6 weeks, I no longer leaked at night.

H&M do nursing vests with shelf support and drop clips which I find ideal for sleeping in - they're about a fiver for a two-pack.

I used a mothercare nighttime nursing crop top bra for the first 6 months to hold on the breast pads. I bought I big size so it wasn't tight.

I have giant boobs and I'm pregnant - boobs have leaked since week 14 so I need to wear a bra at night with breastpads otherwise I wake up soaking in milk/colostrum. I bought some night time bras from mamas and papas and they're great! So comfy - you don't feel like you're wearing a bra. I recommend.

I remember when I just had ds, I couldn't fit in my bras and they hurt too much so I just bought some surgical tape and taped breast pads to my boobs. It was a damn sexy sight, I'm telling ya!

I had the sleep bras from mothercare too - very comfortable.

I used to wear a folded muslin under my nightie. Caught all the milk but wasn't restrictive Smile

I agree you shouldn't need to wear a bra all the time. The leaking calms down after a while (although I can't remember how long). Anyway your bra shouldn't be uncomfortable so its definitely worth checking some of the suggestions above.

Be careful wearing a bra at night can give you mastitis. I know. I have it again Sad

Superworm · 29/01/2014 22:21

Wearing a bra at night have me mastitis too actually. I switched to wearing a towel over by boobs in bed, which was fine. After a while they stopped leaking and have been fine since.
