Question about formula

Hi everyone, I have just discovered that my DS (9 months, exclusively BF until 6 months, mix feeding until 7, and on formula until 8) is not digesting well his Aptamil 2 (for hungrier babies). I have had to go back to Aptamil 1 and he has been much better. Does anyone know what are the 'real' benefits of moving to a number 2 milk? Has anyone else experienced similar problems? (My DS started having diarrhoea after a bad bout of gastro enteritis and when I changed to Aptamil 1 his runny poos stopped; he started eating again with 'gusto'; he sleeps better).

Similar experience anyone? Or maybe I should just try a different milk completely...

Thanks!

Mimi

No real benefits! Plenty of us have skipped the hungrier baby/follow on stuff completely! It made dd1 constipated.

I thought the only difference between 1 and 2 was that one is based on milk curds and the other is whey based. The curds one takes longer to digest (I think, or is it the whey that takes longer?!) so fills up tummy for longer, which is why it's for hungrier babies. When you get to number 3, it's got more iron, so is useful if your lo doesn't take much volume (my ds sometimes only had 5 oz TOTAL in a day apart from his morning bf)

I was told by Cow and Gate (Who also make Aptamil) that APtamil is the better of the two as more research has been done on it.

agree wih epis. stick with Aptamil 1. follow on is a ploy by companies to get their formula brands advertised (its illegal to advertise formula for babies under 6 months) they put more supplements in them but it is not in a form that babies can digest anyway so it is a waste. eg. more iron which is why Expats dd1 was constipated.

monkeybar is right, also after you start on 2nd baby milk (curd based) they are all the same, just everytime you "step-up" a milk, its more calorific than the previous
