4do baby hasn't pooed for over 2 days

Wasnt sure where to ask this, but DD (born early hrs of Wednesday) hasn't pooed since Friday morning.

Is this normal? I asked the midwife when I saw her yesterday and she wasn't concerned but seemed to think she'd definitely have been by today.

Should I worry?

She's EBF by the way.

Not normal.

I'd call the postnatal wars now & see what they say.

There are a few current threads on this, BakeOff, so have a look.

Basically, it is unusual for a new baby not to poo every day, and by four days, your baby's poos should be changing from black/brown to green/yellow. If things have not changed today, then it is a sign your baby should be weighed, and your feeding should be assessed - because by day four we're looking for the baby to show by her poo that she is feeding effectively. A weight check and an assessment of feeding will help guage this.

What do you think? Is your baby feeding frequently and transferring milk ok, from what you can judge? Has she been weighed since birth?

www.ouh.nhs.uk/women/maternity/postnatal/infant-feeding/documents/nappy.pdf is a good guide.

Hi Crispy and Tiktok,
She's feeding every 2-3hrs on average for between 10-30mins and seems content in between so I'm assuming she's getting plenty of milk.
She was weighed yesterday and had lost 8.5% so within "normal" amounts. It's just that she hasn't done a poo!
I've got an appt with the midwife tomorrow morning but perhaps I'll ring them today anyway.

That weight loss is within normal for day 3, BakeOff - the feeding frequency is also within normal. That's reassuring, but it's still a case of watchful waiting, I think, with another weight tomorrow if still no production.

Thanks Tiktok.

I took Crispy's advice and phoned my midwife today and she said the same, that given she's feeding well and so far not losing too much weight there's no need for too much concern just yet.

I've got an appointment tomorrow morning anyway so we can weigh her again if she still hasn't been by then.

I dread to think what it's going to be like when she finally goes!!

Well we've had 3 poos this evening and 3 complete changes of clothes, so hopefully we're back on track.

Thanks for the advice and support.
