Breast feeding in the night

My 4 month old will go from 7pm to about 1am before needing a feed, but then wakes every 2 hours after that for a feed. Is this normal do you think? Thank you

Hi Annabel,
That sounds amazing to me. 7pm til 1am is 6 hours straight sleep.

Your baby is probably then just tanking up every 2 hours, which is not unusual at all, although I imagine it's a pain for you!

I'd suggest early nights for you, while this phase lasts! Smile

Thank you pooka moo, I am a committed early nighter!

My two are 5 and 2 years old, and I have only just discovered the amazing benefits of an early night! I am slow on the uptake, but now I can't help myself and have to recommend it everywhere!

Congratulations on your lovely baby, and hopefully this phase will pass soon.

7 until 1?! Am so jealous! My 18 weeker has never slept that long, am dying of sleep deprivation.

Yes, sounds normal. I found the 1am feed gradually moved to 2am, 3am, then he suddenly started sleeping through to about 6.

Hiya, it's great she's sleeping so long, good job!
Our DD was doing the same thing so instead of waiting for her to wake up hungry we introduced a bottle at 11pm as a dreamfeed. She doesn't usually fully wake up - just enough to guzzle the bottle. Over the course of the last month we found that she then went 11-3am without a feed & then happy until 7:30am. In the last week she pushed back the 3am feed till 5am a few times & last night dropped it. (Probably a one off!)
So this technique might take a while but worked for us. Good luck :)

Hi, I have a 4 month old who seems to have the exact same routine! Only way she goes longer is if I give her formula for her last feed. I try and give her one bottle a day now and it's working really well for me so far and I actually look forward to my bf ones with her, especially at night.

Iamavapernow · 25/01/2014 16:12
