Infant feeding

coeliacsand breast feeding !!!!!!!!!!!!!

i need some help

my dh and my sil's and dn all have coeliacs which is incredibly rare [they have been studied] and coeliacs is normally passed mother to son father to daughter and i'm expecting a lil girl
sooooooooooooooo will i have to avoid wheat whilst im breast feeding in case it passes through

i know i cant give her wheat or gluten til she's at least 12 months but i was wondering re breastfeeding

or am i being stupid please help

I don't think that you would have to avoid it. I don't think that the gluten would be able to get into breastmilk and babies who have coeliac don't develop symptoms until they come into contact with wheat through a weaning diet. I think that the best thing to do would be to contact the coeliac support group coleic uk \link{http://www.coeliac.co.uk}

I've just looked myself and it just seems to say breast or bottle feed as normal.
