No luck introducing bottle at 4m

DS is 4months next week and has been EBF to date. With my first I was expressing from the start and she took a daily bottle easily. This time I don't want to express. I find it time consuming and never as successful as baby suckling so it takes me several goes to get enough for a feed.

I need a bit of freedom. I'm feeding in demand and although we often get 5/6 hours at night, it's every 2/3 in the day. I'd like to give him a bottle a day of formula.

I thought I'd start with expressed milk to get him used to the bottle first but 2 weeks of trying and we're not getting there. Have tried doing it at different feeds, before he's really hungry and frantic, interspersed with boob, from DH with me out of the way, at the dream feed - nothing seems to work. Sometimes I've delayed offering the boob straight after and tried again in 20 mins, then again etc - but I don't want to delay a feed much longer as he's small and that doesn't feel right. Help!

Haven't got much to suggest, well apart from having a look in the Mn archive, there should be lots of old threads on bottle refusal.

Have you tried a cup instead? Smile

Have you tried different bottles? My dd is 4 months and refused every bottle going apart from a 'lansinoh momma' - have a look on amazon or eBay and in tk maxx.
Not to be confused with tomy momma (teats are different)
First she only had like 20ml but a week in at one a day in the mid afternoon and she takes about 3oz.

Thanks both. We've tried avent and nuk. As luck would have it DH made a breakthrough tonight and he took 90ml! Please let this not be a fluke!!

I had the same problem. Breast flow bottles only ones that she would take

We had this too; Mam teats were the only ones she took to and only after a lot of perseverance - she would also refuse if someone else other than me fed her so I was no better off! Finished her final bf last week at 25 weeks, and is now taking Avent Natural bottles quite happily. Light at the end of the tunnel!
