Sharp shooting pains after breastfeeding

I recently had a short burst of mastitis which I managed to treat myself and didn't get poorly with it but am really suffering now with post feeding shooting pains that come about an hour after feeding and are so intense. I really don't know what it is or what to do so any advice would be very welcome, thanks.

This sounds like thrush maybe? Here is a page on bf and thrush.

Almost certainly thrush, KathR . Does it feel like someone is sticking a knitting needle through your nipple and into your breast? That's how it felt to me. I didn't treat mine as I got it over Christmas and I was lucky that ds didn't get it - I wouldn't recommend leaving it! If you search the archives by putting "thrush" into the "breast and bottlefeeding" section you will find lots of threads with helpful information on how to treat it.

Beware though, it's something that many GP's do not understand or know how to treat, it's really worth knowing about it and the appropriate treatments before you go. I have seen reference to a page you can print to take to your GP explaining what to prescribe to treat it (that should be in the archives somewhere too!

I definitely agree that it is almost certainly thrush. I have found athlete's foot cream with Micanazole really helps but definitely treat it or your baby will get it too. I have had it several times and it can get worse and worse and be unbearable. All the best with getting it sorted. I echo advice on GPs and have found the only way to get what i want is to take something along for GP to read before making prescription.
