I'm going to go out on a limb here because this is hugely embarrassing and I've never heard of anyone with the same thing...

I am 35 weeks with second child and again as in my last pregnancy the glands under my arms have all swollen up and developed what look like little nipples.

If you haven't already lost your lunch, read on...

Last time they leaked milk for the first week or so too... I must have been the only person I know employing 4 breastpads at once!

Right I'm mortified. Anyone ever heard of this before? Midwife seemed unbothered when I mentioned it when I was bfing DD1.

sorry not heard of it...

It's really common, don't worry about it.

I've not got underarm nipples, but I do sometimes get a lump that leaks a bit of milk.

It's all about the glamour, motherhood...

minko · 26/07/2006 23:11

Really??? Are you not just saying that to make me feel better!? I feel like a complete freak!

They can appear anywhere along the 'milk line' - from the armpit to the inner thigh.

Good this mothering lark isn't it?

you can google about it - not at work though or you'll get caught out by the porno police!! - it's an accessory breast, you can have them removed if you want as well, my sis did but it did leave quite a big scar. Remember to check for lumps there just like you check the rest of your breast tissue and to tell the radiographer if you have mammogram when older.
first I knew about mine was bf my 2nd when it leaked a bit of milk, previously it had been diagnosed by specialist as cyst! shows what they know!

when i was a girl the woman next door had a small functioning third breast under one of the usual ones.

Don't some women (and men) have false nipples? one or more little nipplettes near the real ones? Is that the same?

tiktok · 27/07/2006 10:49

I'm a breastfeeding counsellor, and I occasionally come across people with ancilliary nipples with or without the ancilliary breast tissue. There's plenty of stuff in the literature about it. Some women are unlucky enough to get mastitis/blocked ducts, though I have never spoken to anyone personally who has had this problem, so I guess it's pretty rare.

Minko, it is definitely not freakish...it's just part and parcel of the wonderful variety of human being-ness

I've got two little nipples under my armpits, I thought they were gills though! don't worry it just makes you special!
