Hi all my DD is nearly 9 weeks old and having aptamail stage 1 milk 4oz every 2 hours in the day and going 3 hours at night.

Some one as told me to switch DD to hungry baby milk would this help her go longer between feeds of fill her up a bit more???

Anybody else switched!

Thanks

I only switched when ds was about 14weeks and was taking full bottles (8oz) and was being unsettled afterwards. In your case I would see if your lo would take more in her existing bottles. Hungry milk has the same calories as first milk so it gives no more nutrition and could lead to her taking fewer calories if she takes less of it.

I was told to only switch if they were taking over the guide amount for their age (on the powder box) and still wanting more.

Thanks for the replies. I'll stick to what I'm doing!!

All babies are different and the amounts on the box are only a rough guide. If your baby needs more calories it seems a bit pointless denying them Smile

Hi today i have increased DD to 5oz and she is feeding every 1.5hr!!

I think its the start of a growth spurt, I think Im going to get some of the ready made stage 2 cartons and try her :-)

does she finish the 5oz bottles? Try adding another oz if she is

lindsey86 · 13/01/2014 20:43

Hi ilovepowerhoop she is finishing 5oz but i only put her on 5oz today so I dont know whether 6oz will be too much for her?

Isn't stage 2 for 6 month olds? Is there any reason you can't just give her more or more often if that is what she needs?

purplemurple1 · 13/01/2014 20:50

How much they should take is related to weight rather than age really - how big is she?

lindsey86 · 13/01/2014 21:01

Hi
purplemurple1

She was 11lb 8oz last Thursday, We got the 8 week check and injections tomorrow.

I have increased her to 5oz today and have been feeding her every 1.5hours, she was going 2hours+ yesterday in the day and 4hours last night on 4oz.

I'd try your dad on 6oz. when I was ff my ds, I took the biew

ReluctantCamper · 13/01/2014 21:04

bah! stupid phone! I took the view that if I had been bf (and had boobs that worked) there would always have been a bit more if ds had suckled longer, so wanted there to always be a bit left in the bottle, so he was controlling how much he took, not me

lindsey86 · 13/01/2014 21:14

Thanks
reluctant camper i going to give her 6oz for bedtime feed and see how she goes with t. I like you i would rather there be some left over than not enough in the bottle for her :-)

I work it out as she roughly needs 28 to 36oz per day bit of course that will vary esp if she having a growth spurt best to try and just give what she os asking for and ignore the suggested amounts on the box.

dreamingalone · 23/01/2014 11:06

Lindsey- why do you want her to go longer than 2 hours or stay fuller for longer? 1 or 2 hours between feeds is perfectly normal. she doesnt need to be constantly full which is what hungry baby milk does, its not for babys her age. perhaps feed her more often and less at a time.?
but there is no reason to change her milk my daughter was on stage 1 aptimal till she was 1 , there is no need to switch as it could cause constipiation etc
