Temporary Lactose Intolerence??

Hi, my boy (8 months old) has had gastro enteritis - vomiting and diarrhoea recently. He vomited only once (but it was a spectacular projectile vomit) and has had mild diarrhoea ever since (now 8 days). Have been to GP and gastro enteritis was confirmed, but I have just red that some babies develop temporary lactose intolerence following gastro enteritis. What made me look it up is that he always has a massive fart and runny poo just after his feed. I stoped BF about 1 month ago, and he is now on Aptamil. Anyone else had this problem? How did you solve it? How was it diagnosed? I am worried because DS is losing weight, and refusing all solids at the mo. Please help!! Thanks, Mimixx

I kept dd of all dairy products and gave her rice and soy milk
But my dd was 2.5 so not milk dependent as your little lad is, perhaps a soy formula?
Also buy buy buy from a hleath food shop some acidophulus powder, it helps resettle the digestive enzymes and helps kids pick up after bugs.
Worth it, dd had been ill for 7 weeks before we figured it out. she was fixed within 48 hrs.
HTH

BOth my ds's developed temp lactose Int. when they were about 2 and 4 after a mon specific virus. My dr told me to go dairy free for 3 weeks and then reintroduce. It worked.

Thanks for that! Did you use soy formula? Where can I buy it and which brand should I look for?
Thanks!!

try goats milk as well, dd has a mild lactose intolerance but is fine on goats milk. it's closer to breast milk than cows and doesn't seem to react the same way

goats milk reacted on dd, as my dd was not on formula we used ordinary soy milk. ASk your chemist for soy formula perhaps?

Lots of reasons to be wary of soya formula:

today's Guardian is just the latest look at this.

Any chance of you starting to bf again, Mimixx?

Don't assume it is lactose intolerance without a proper diagnosis. Hope he gets better soon.

Mimixx just to add that dd was LF and refused a lot of the formulas. She settled on LF SMA. Tried the soy but it really constipated her.

Mine had mild diarrhoea too twice and we were told to take him off cows milk for 6 weeks both times.

It worked but this was after 12 months when cows milk was his main drink. He was breastfed before but we switched to a goats milk - could you switch to goat formula?
