Advice on dream feeding

Can I ask your advice on dream feeding.
I tried it for the 1st time yesterday & it didn't go as expected.
Normally the last feed is around 8/9 & we are up twice (around 2 & 5) then morning feed around 8.
I would like to be able to drop the 2am feed so thought to try dream feeding around 11. LO generally feeds for an hour so 11 seems to be the earliest I could do it.
He took the dream feed at 11 but woke at 1, 4 & 6 for a feed.

What went wrong & do I keep trying?

Our 2mo son goes to bed with us at 11 (obvi sleeps in Moses downstairs,I'm not ready to put him to bed on his own yet),whenever his last feed is 8\9\10 we always give him a top up just before bed of 3oz (currently on 5oz) then he sleeps til either 4.30 or 6.30,sleep then feed at 8. How much r u giving him? Just keep trying hun x

Hey is mainly breastfed so hard to say. He does take formula (about 5oz) when his dad does a feed. He works shifts so not at the same time each day.

I'd keep trying, it might take a few days for your baby to adjust to a new pattern. Good luck!

It doesn't work for all babies.

It worked like a dream for my first, but I had exactly the same problem as you're describing with my second. In the end I gave up and found he slept longer!

You didnt say how old yours is?

He is nearly 10 weeks.

Decided to hold off tonight mainly coz he finished feeding at 10, & I wonder feeding him at 11 yesterday upset his sleep rhythm. He has cluster fed alot this evening but I think I will be doing my 2 & 5 wake up calls tonight!

It's early days still I suppose. Mine is 6 months corrected age.

How did it go for you last night?

cookiemonster100 · 07/01/2014 18:00

Hey. I decided not to do it last night & we had a better night sleep! I fed every 2 hours between 4-10 then he woke at 2. Breast fed him with a formula top up and he slept through till nearly 7! Yippee!!!
So this is going to be my approach for tonight to litmus test to see if this works. Probably not but I can hope.
Thanks for checking in laughingeyes

It's really strange how dream feeds are perfect for some babies but not others.

You're duing well getting a 5 hour sleep before 12 weeks old, I've only just this last week stopped feeding every 2-3 hours overnight!
